I think last year was the end for me squeaking use out of my 15 year old Carhart actic jacket. I'm looking around for what to replace it with...I haven't bought a heavy coat in a very long time, so please weigh in on experiences as well as other possible contenders. Jacket must meet 'working man's' durability...no puffy, lightweight ski jackets need apply

Initial contenders are:

Carhartt cotton duck shell w/ sythetic 'arctic' liner

Carhartt arctic extreme jacket (cordura nylon shell/ synth liner)

Duluth Trading Parka (down lining)

That is the default plan... just asking if there is a better mousetrap out there now

Re: Heavy Winter Jacket

Stick with the Carh. Artic line. Anything else will leave you less than thrilled from the sounds of it.

5.11 5-in 1 parka has been great, but not to your needs for 'hard use". maybe

Re: Heavy Winter Jacket

+1 for the artic lined carhart,i have the jacket and bibs, and still have to layer underneath with fleece and UA if it gets below zero,i would like to have more pockets tho,but i'm only on year 5 with this jacket so it's gonna be a while before i'm looking to replace it.
