Thanks for having me here. Long time hunter/shooter. I am now trying to explore the world of mid range/long range hunting. Looking forward to learning as much as possible.

Join contest SubscribeThanks everyone. Bogeybrown south Louisiana, not Al. However, I did grow up in central Al. Left when I joined the Corps after high school.
Sorry, didn't have my damn glasses on. I'm originally from NOLA, then Lafayette, then all up and down The Bayou before ending up in South AL.
Welcome to the Hide! Where are you in South Louisiana? I lived in Youngsville for 4 years and I am from NOLA originally. The only 3 that I know of which have anything past 100yards are Palo Alto in Donaldsonville, Eunice Rifle and Gun Club in Eunice, and Emyard's Shooting Academy in Galliano.
bogeybrown where in South Alabama are you at? I just recently started shooting at the Rockford Gun Club, I had been shooting at CMP in Talladega.

Unfortunately from what I am hearing recently Eymards closed. I believe the older gentleman passed away. I really hate to see that. That was 20 minutes from me. Palo Alto is open often? I see on the local forum people speaking of it often. I don't work far from there so I might have to check it out to shoot any distance at all.

Yeah, Palo Alto is a membership club that goes to 600 yards. It is open 7am to sunset everyday. Looks like it is $225/year with an initiation fee of $100.

I saw it was For Sale. I did not know that it had closed.
I'm in Thibodaux and have areas to shoot 600. When the cane is short we can take it to 1200. I will be doing a lot of prepping over the next few weeks as I'm shooting a few upcoming PRS matches. feel free to PM if you want to come shoot.
Awesome. Thank you for the offer. I just ordered my remaining parts today. I am hoping end of next week to have everything put together and ready to test out. I will likely take you up on that offer when everything is ready.
Aren't you guys like all related anyways?
If your cousins looked like Cajun girls you'd never ask that question.
Well, I'm from New Orleans and there are all sorts of public ranges available within the city limits. I've been gone for a long time but I doubt things have changed too much. You have everything from extreme CQB to well over 1,000 yards, night shoots, and lots of movers.
For CQB I really like the Iberville Projects, it's total run and gun. There's lots of small businesses along Canal St just a sprint away to tuck into for reloading, refueling, and treating any wounds. This is total Benelli M4 heaven, and huge bonus points for the SBS. Or a Samurai sword if you're game. Be prepared for some fancy footwork.
For medium distances, the St. Bernard Projects offer some surrounding green space and two long thoroughfares, but not too long. Solid snap shooters view this area as a kind of arcade game. I would stay away from red dots and use at least a low magnification optic with some offset iron backups, the near to far transitions can happen pretty quick.
For the long distance guys, Fischer reigns supreme. You can reach this one all the way from the GNO (that big bridge over the river). You and some buddies would be well served to park a flat bed on the bridge to clear the railing, and have an large cooler of ice cold Barq's. It's close enough to Momma's Kitchen to order up a Ferdi's special (extra debris!) while letting barrels cool. Also, Fischer is an especially exciting two way range if you want to close the distance , just ask any SWAT team member working the area at any point in the last 50 years.
EDIT: Someone just told me that Fischer imploded (literally) several years ago. How sad. As an alternative range St Bernard gets the vote, again. Within sighting distance of City Park and the Fairgrounds this offers some real open spaces when working from one of the many available elevated structures.
Then there are specialty venues. For music lovers I recommend the Lafitte housing project. The chances of walking up on a nice second line (that's brass band speak) booming from the other side of a barricaded door, or a hip street beat (think Hey Pocky Way by The Meters), is pretty good. Rhythmically speaking it is probably 2nd to only the Treme area. The challenge then is to let loose a pew-pew-pew that is percussively complimentary. I love laying down a nice groove, and practice makes perfect.
This is a highly abbreviated listing of New Orleans shooting venues. You don't really have to look too hard.
As for Cajun girls... yes. And yes.
So how's this work? You all get together for your monthly family hoe-down, and everyone has a copy of the currently updated family tree? That way when you think that chick is hot, the first step in the courting process is to compare where you both are on the family tree map?

Uhm, welcome aboard shipmate and as for the rest of you sexual deviants, I'd love to see some pics. It's for a science project.![]()
One of life's tragedies is that cell phone cameras didn't exist when I left my beloved Cajun Country. But I'm counting on chootum to contribute a few pics in Motivational or wherever
