Ooohwee! Cold, wind and snow - welcome to the Hide. You'll find lots of good information here. A few words of caution, lock your credit cards in the gun safe. Do your homework before asking questions, use the search function. There's a bunch of old farts here that easily get annoyed by young 'whipersnappers' asking questions that have been rehashed to the ends of the earth or that a single celled life form could have answered for itself. I have to admit, I'm one of the 'old farts'.
With some effort in research and homework you can work up a basic ballistic chart for your favorite ammunition then use your range time to verify/adjust that chart. I had a lot of fun and learned a bunch when I did this years before all this expensive equipment was made available to the shooting world. I used the bullet/ballistic tables in the back of my Speer reloading manual then did a lot of shooting between 100-300 yards. I managed to take my second caribou beyond 200 using a handgun, a 45-70 14'' Thompson Contender shooting 400 grain Speer flat nosed frying pans over IMR4227. Yep, if I had all the fancy bells and whistles I would have accomplished the same thing but not been able to afford as much trigger time.
