Welcome aboard, and yes, it's been pretty shitty over here on the wet side!

Hoping to get over to Moses lake at a buddies this spring with a few rifles, drove 2 1/2 hours to Yakima about 3 weeks ago and the fog was so thick you couldn’t make things out past 100yards

We are all new to the sport of clays. We would occasionally go up in the hills with a hand thrower and some beers. Pretty hard to not have fun shooting (at) clay pigeons.

Welcome from sw wa! I was actually able to get to the range Sunday during a little break. Need to make a hike up to our long range spot to see if our targets are still there.

Eatonville is where Upper NIsqually 'sportsman's club is located. They have a 550 yard range that is open any day there isn't a match going on, and they have steel targets placed at various distances on that range. Last time I was there, steel was at 200, 350, 435, and 500 yards. Folks usually put a bunch of 4" clay birds on the berm at the 550 yard line, and it is kind of fun to pick off those bright orange spots at 550 yards.

They have all sorts of various matches including PRS monthly club matches as well as points matches for national PRS standing. For the PRS monthly matches, they use both the 550 and 600 yard ranges so they can have a number of stages running at the same time.

Almost all of the rifle ranges have covered firing positions. There are some nice pistol pits with lots of steel and a plate rack too....also with a covered firing position if you want.

They have a sporting clays course that brings in lots of competitors. I have heard that it has quite a good reputation among sporting clays shooters.

Yup, it’s a good range. Last time I shot there , was a couple old guy shooting clays on the berm at 550 and then picking off the pieces. They let me and my brother peck away at them with they’re guns. I don’t think there was a chip you couldn’t hit with the guns they had or at least cover them with dirt haha. It was the bug that got my brother and I to start shooting long range. Rangefinders weren’t really a thing back then. Muzzle brakes were just starting to surface in the public world. Looking back I can sure appreciate the amount of time and fun those guys must have spent to get those guns to that level.

Welcome for the S. Tacoma area!!! Wife and I love getting down to Eatonville. Have lunch at Brunos and head out to Elbe.
Yup, I know the gravel pit you probably go to. Exploded a gallon size rock with the first round out of a 338 Lapua there. They have rules there now I heard , probably for the best lol

Those guys in the East don’t know how good they got it. A gong disappears in a month around here and your not just going to buzz your quad out there to clear it lol

That’s amazing, seems like houses going up like popcorn down there. I used to cut timber and worked in some areas down there, some state and Weyerhaeuser land. Ground was less steep and state had some 80-90 year red fir crops that was good bushling. Everything is 35-45 year now and ground so steep you feel like repelling down to your strip. Glad that craps behind me lol

I liked the pic , wish mine look more like the one in the pics state but it's not . I locked up the rear axles many years ago racing a vet home from the beach . been under tent since sadly waiting .

I cut on a couple old growth units up in the watershed out of Cumberland that had a lot of big bulls and huuuge black bear. Not too far from Buckley

Thanks, I’ll sure be glad when the weather gets better here. Definitely thins out the population after a good solid couple months of crap weather though. I call it the cleansing

Hi Nealm66,
Is the Upper Nesqually range pretty busy in the AM (8am-12) weekdays for long distance rifle? How busy is it on the weekends too?

Im currently a member of the snoqualmie valley club which only goes to 200yds. On a waitlist for cascade rifle club which goes to 600yds but rarely adds people each year.

Thanks,
Dom

I’m not sure, I haven’t shot or been a member there since about 5 years ago. It’s about $400 to join now. Friends of mine say it’s changed quite a bit.

Well, it depends on your perspective. Most (pretty much all) of my friends that used the range, grew up here. The range members were mostly locals and it was pretty friendly. Well, as is probably the story with most ranges in rural settings, there is a lot of outside influences coming in, some redneck wantabees. It didn’t take long before they had to block things off and put up a security gate and from there (from what I hear) it’s gotten very formal. Nothing wrong with that but , for instance, you can’t just apply for a membership and shoot. You would have to be invited from a current member and that has to be approved by people who probably don’t even live here if you get my jest. I’ve heard the long range is generally unavailable on the weekends, not sure about the week days. As for myself, I do load work at a public 200 yd range and have a spot about 1.5 hours away to shoot 600 and a buddy in Moses lake to shoot past my ability

Thanks, finally got some range time last weekend. Breaking in my new CA Mesa LR in 300 prc. Was a bit more violent then what I was expecting for how heavy it is. There was a girl laying prone smacking a three inch target at 500 meters about 3 tables down from me. God bless America
