Could anyone spare 100 rds of the 208 Amax??? I have an Elk hunt in Arizona I leave for on Nov. 17!!! I restocked my gun for this hunt and had some issues that cost me more rounds than I could spare. I'm down to 40rds, was hopeing to shoot it down there when I arrived to check my dope before the hunt. This is cutting it to close for comfort, if my dopes off I'm in big trouble. I've tried finding these anywhere, as you know there not to be had, an I've missed the ones that sold on here lately. Hornaday says they won't be available till end of Nov.-first of Dec. thousands on backorder now. Please help!!!!
THANK YOU, Wayne Urbach

Re: Help! 208 AMAX

That would be Great! I'd be more than glad to send you money for bullets and shipping, plus a few bucks as I'm in a bind.
Goes to show there's some great guys here on the hide, Wish I could say that about tsprink----TREY SPRINKLE from Clovis, NM. He just screwed me out of a Nightforce scope I had bought from him back in March, $1385.00!!!
This sure helps restore some of my confindence in the Hide, just can't be cousious enough.
If I can ever return you a favor, let me know bohem!!!
Thanks, Wayne Urbach---Sent you PM

Re: Help! 208 AMAX

Thanks poorboyshooter, I appreciate it, but 100 from bohem is plenty, I can wait now tell they become available again, besides I'm interested in trying the 225 before I load up my stock on 208s. Wayne

Re: Help! 208 AMAX

Muleman,

Not sure how far out you're shooting, but I have 3 different vintage 208's on my bench now and they have 3 different bearing surface and base to ogive measurements. I doubt it'll show up under 500, but at 1500 it was good for a miss (actually how I discovered this. Never used to measure for it, but suddenly my go to load was shooting almost .4 mil low @ 1500 yds.) So you might check them (the 208's Bohem is sending you) against what you have if you're going to shoot long.

Re: Help! 208 AMAX

Hey Guys, noticed this thread and had to ask...Isn't the A-Max a "no-go" for hunting...esp on anything considered heavier than "thin" skinned..like elk? The only reason I ask is I had a load that was shooting great but dropped it when I read about poor performance on game.

Re: Help! 208 AMAX

Shot a caribou at 512 yards this year with a 208 amax. No problems with it killing. Damage was impressive.

Re: Help! 208 AMAX

I don't want to bring up a big debate! For years now everyone was wanting to argue the best caliber, the best bullet, the best gun. I agree with many, its all about shot placement, I don't eat lungs!! If you can't place it there DON'T SHOOT!!!

Re: Help! 208 AMAX

I've been wanting to load my 208's in my .308 Rem. 700. Is that ok? What powder(s) should I use/start with? Any other advice? OH! and I've found, and I know this sounds crazy, that CCI 7.62 LR primers give me better accuracy then the BR2s. Any explanation on that? Thanks everyone!

Doesn't sound crazy at all. In fact, I get better ES with Wolf primers than with any match primer. Sometimes it is all a matter of cup hardness. The harder cups seem to be more consistent. Just don't know about the variance from lot to lot. But I will continue to shoot the wolfs.

Try the RL15. That's what I loaded the 208 AMAX for my AIAW 308. Got about 2600 fps out of that.
