Hi, everyone and happy holidays.
Im new to the the hide so if this is in the wrong forum plz move it. I just purchased a savage 110 hs precision .338 lapua 3 days ago, took it to the range to put the first rounds threw it last night and had a problem. The problem being that the shells are a Bear to eject, after removing the magazine i had to but the butt of the rifle on the ground and force the empty out. I thought that it might be a fluke so i put another round threw her and same thing happend, i inspected the brass for scratches or signs of it binding up anywhere but nothing. I have no idea what is wrong and if i should take it back to the gun shop and demand my money back/ diff rifle. Or should i send it in to savage? the bullets were the hornaday 250g match that i talked them into tossing in with the rifle purchase.

Re: help a newbie out

Is the bolt pulling the brass out of the chamber? If not it is the extractor. I would start at the gun shop, and through them contact Savage. IMHO there is no need to demand a new gun or get irate yet. An extractor is a cheap easy fix...

Re: help a newbie out

yes, the bolt is pulling the brass out, but i am having to beat the crap out of the bolt to extract. i actually stumbled apon this post a few min ago here on the hide hornady ammo

im going to try some diff ammo as soon as the gun store opens and i can buy some diff ammo. i hope this is my problem.

Re: help a newbie out

I have several savage mod 10's and ran into the same problem with some re-mans I was trying from usa ammo. It easyjet exact same problem you described and it happened in all the guns I tried it in. No signs of cause on brass and doubtful that a malfunction would occur at the same time on 3the different guns. So, I shot some feds and had no issue. I've tried a lot of different ammo and never was able to reproduce it (not that I was trying). So to me it was the ammo. I never mic'd the bad rounds but I am fairly certain that if you did you would find an issue. I just stopped shooting the stuff I had problems with.
If you really want to know what causes this im sure some of the reloading guys could tell you what or why this is.

Re: help a newbie out

yeah i hope it is just a ammo fluke, alltho i thought hornaday was good stuff. biggest problem is that i live in a fairly small town and they are the only gun store to carry .338L ammo. so it looks like ill have to order online if they dont have anything other than hornaday untill i can start reloading my own.

Re: help a newbie out

So today I got my lapua factory loaded ammo. Went out shooting and they cycled flawlessly. Every one ejected without a single problem. So looks like hornady ammo is at fault. Thank god its not my rifle.
