Title says it all: I need help, a walkthrough basically, on how to e-file a form one myself and register a few existing lowers as SBR's in my trust. I know each one is a separate document, but that's it.

Anybody that's successfully done this, if they could walk me through it, tell me what I need to do in detail to get it perfect, I'd be grateful.

I've filled out form four's before, but I didn't e-file 'em, the dealer did.

I'm sure I could figure it out by searching, but I don't want to get any details wrong so I'd rather get info from someone who has been there and done that.

    Thanks.

Maybe I should see what my dealer is planning on doing with the suppressors he's getting in --I'm waiting on a .50 that hasn't been filed yet, and a .22 that was filed months ago.

I suppose I could file one or two on paper, then when the system is up, do the other two via e-file? What would you do?

I'd hedge your bets. Send in a paper one. And IF eForms v2.0 comes up, then file for another. Nothing wrong with doubling up. It's just money and they're printing more of that every day. Either way you'll be waiting several months.

I got in a week before they closed eFroms. I saw how much of a PITA it is to get one Form 1, let alone a few, so I submitted for 6 Form 1s. I don't have to make them, but I know I don't want to wait another 6+ months for permission to make another for another caliber.

    do they refund the difference?

Thanks, I'll go ahead and do that. Can't hurt anything, I have extra lowers and planned on getting a couple others.

Quick question: can I still use the lower as a regular rifle lower until the tax stamp comes through?

Collecting stamps for future purchases/builds sounds like a great idea too.

Raider, No, they will (eventually) issue as many stamps as you submit for. Sorry, I assumed you were going to make a form 1 suppressor as this is the suppressor forum (oops poor reading comprehension). If you just want to submit for a single form 1 SBR lower, then put in whichever way you can and then find some other hobby to distract you from the wait.

For me, it was a matter of waiting an excessive amount of time for one versus a bunch. I put in for 6 suppressor stamps from .22cal to .50cal. I'll probably never have to go through the pain of getting another stamp unless I get a few more people on the trust.

Stryker, As long as you do not put an upper less than 16.125" long on that lower then it's still just a rifle, like you bought off the shelf.

You can cancel a stamp even after receiving it as long as you have not 'used' the stamp by making an SBR/Suppressor. Directly from the Form 1:

    5. Cancellation of Approved Application. An approved application may be cancelled only if the firearms had not been made or modified. The maker must return the approved application with a written request for cancellation, citing the need and that the making of the firearm did not take place. The NFA Branch will arrange for a refund of any tax paid.

Thanks, I'll get the ball rolling on one or two paper filed ones, then worry about e-filing more when that gets back up. Hedging bets and all. And I'll continue to use it as a standard rifle until I get my stamp.

Oh, and sorry about the confusion, yeah it is for an SBR, but we don't have an NFA catchall forum so I figured it suited best to this one where discussions are had about these forms. Now if I had the shop to make my own cans, I'd go your route too and just knock out all the stamps at once.

Hey, could one do this with 80% lowers as well as building cans from scratch? Say collect a few stamps, then when they come through and at my leisure, I can cut those receivers and engrave and slave them to one of the tax stamps respectively. Is this kosher? Can this be done on form one's as well?

    Thanks for the info guys!

Good to know, Vinsonr! I was unaware that you could get a full refund! I do wonder how much more of a PITA that is, the ATF is pretty busy just processing the forms.

Stryker, with the 80% stuff you will have to put a serial number on anything that becomes an NFA item. However, until you actually assemble an NFA firearm you do not have to serialize any gun you make for personal use. You can have stamps lying around for as long as you need, they don't expire.
