Hey fellas I need a little help figuring out what type of handgaurds these are and how he texture was obtained. I found these pictures on m4carbine.net towards the end of the mrp thread. Looks like tangodowns and knights but with a special texture. Im not a member there otherwise I would have asked the OP.

Since your not a member there, it's a good thing I'm a member here

The actual rail panels are KAC RIB panels that I have performed custom work on. The work includes removing the ribs, sanding down the contour slightly, and then I stipple them with a wood burning tool.

Here is a DIY video I made depicting how to do these panels...

Weller woodburning kit and other things needed for the job...the weller kit is a great tool for this job, and it's under $20 from Sears

Trident have you compared the scar panels to your custom panels? If so, which ones have more texture?

Also I don't have any experience with the Knights rail covers but I have several of the standard lmt marked tangodown covers. They are ok but my issue with them is they have some "slop" in them and don't feel solid on the rails. Are the knights covers any better?

Hey pal, no experience w/ the TD scar panels.

The great thing about the DIY KAC panels is that you can create any texture you want with the personalized stippling.

In regards to movement...I simply use a toothpick to "tuck" some foam underneath the KAC panels in order to remove all the movement. Once you play around with it a bit, you can get them to lock down very solid with little to no movement at all.

Re: Help identify these handguards

do you have to sand down 1st? why not just stipple them like they are? my KAC rail covers have no movement--that's why I like em best---gotta try this stippling on something I can practice on 1st
