Shooting matches that are PRS style, shooting from under object, out of vehicles, roofs, tires, etc... Range is 100-513 yards. The stages have short time limits, 30-60 seconds and I thought I'd suck ass with my bolt gun... but I actually did well, with the time limits.

Im leaning towards a semi auto though, but AR15 or AR10? With these distances, what would you guys run, considering the wind can be tough at times. 223's seem to do pretty good there, but arent the best option from what I've seen.

I'd run one of Robert Whitley's 6mmAr turbo 40's and something like a 105 berger or 107smk. The custom pills from Barts or precision ballistics vaper trail etc if you're less budget-conscious

Buddy has the CMT 24.5in .224v. It shoots very nice with both factory 90gr SMK and 88gr ELD. No issues out to 800, and definitely would handle moa targets to 600.

    But its pretty damn heavy...

I am only shooting factory at this point, it’s cheap enough that I haven’t yet broken out the reloading supplies for it yet. It shot federal Superformance 90s pretty well, I use the Hornady 88s a lot with great results and even the federal American Eagle 75s work great out to 600 yards. The Federal AE are $10/box, so not worth my time to reload.

It does seem to stress the brass from what I’ve seen, but I’ve got plenty of brass for if and when I start loading for it.

I think the 22” is a great length for the cartridge and AR platform. It is heavier than what you would want for a carbine, but I specifically built mine as a rifle for mid/long range precision and like the weight for that purpose. Plus, mine balances well with the PRS stock on it.

Yep, his has the gen3 PRS stock and a nice geissele trigger (forget which one). Its heavy but stable. Its very soft and fun to shoot.

He complains about shooting my 06, LoL...

Yea I would stick to 223 for 500 yards . mostly for price its way cheaper and easier to find than 6.5 though if you could shoot further out 6.5 is nice , It is god's preferred ammo , and god smiles so much brighter on those that shoot his magical bullets lol , na the 223 bolt gun should do you nicely and its a blast you get lots of great choices 55-75 gr that shoot extremely nice groups at 600 yards and further if your skills are up to snuff so for 500 yards it should do you well and not pinch in the pocket too much . Good luck on which ever round you go with .
