As you can see I have a Lapua .308 stuck in a RCBS FL sizing die.
I ripped 3/4 of them rim off in the process before I realized I had a stuck case. I work at a old school hardware that has the tools to fix just about anything. Problem is this is my first stucky, and no one else I work with is a reloader. I know the process involves drilling, tapping, and some how pulling the case. If anyone knows how to do this in a garage, without contacting Midwayusa.com please fill me in.
p.s. Tool List!!

Re: help me out, case stuck in die!

Drill through the primer pocket with a #7 drill
tap with a 1/4 - 20 tpi tap
place in a vise and put a 9/16" socket over the case
put a 1/4" washer on a 1 1/2" 1/4 inch bolt
thread the bolt through the socket and washer
thread the bolt into the tapped hole on the case head
tighten the screw and as the slack is taken out the case will start moving.

Use a little more case lube.

Re: help me out, case stuck in die!

FYI - Redding offers a case removal tool that really works well. It's nice to have around just in case and makes fast work of a stuck case

Re: help me out, case stuck in die!

As long as you still have the bottom of the case to work with, use some type of removal tool.

Usually when buddies bring them to me the head is aready ripped off or mangled.

I just unscrew the decap-expander rod, find the right size gauge pin, and use a fixture I made for arbor press.

Only damage so far has been from those who tried.
Takes less time than drilling the hole to tap.

Sometimes tossing it in the freezer for a couple hours works too.

Since I purchased a stuck case removal kit I never had another stuck case! It's kind of like insurance I guess, mine is in it's unopened original package in the drawer. Hope it stays that way!

Re: help me out, case stuck in die!

If you mess up getting the stuck case out and can not use some of the excellent aforementioned techniques. You can mail the die to RCBS and they can fix the stuck case issue and check for damage and repair the damage at the same time.

Re: help me out, case stuck in die!

Shipping to RCBS is the way to go.

Then, decide whether you'd rather do due diligence with case lube, or have to buy another die to allow you to reload while your other die is enroute to and from RCBS.
