I have a SPS Tactical 308 that was shooting 1/2moa.... Put it in an HS Precision Stock and it was still shooting 1/2" moa... Skim bed the action and it looks great, action fits like a glove and now I cant shoot for crap... I am doing good to get 1" moa at 200yds... Thats on a good day. What the hell did I do wrong.. I am at the point I would like to play golf with the rifle....

Any Ideas?

Re: Help! Problems with 308

The action is torqued down... I didnt think I stressed the action as I didnt put back in the action screws while I was bedding it... The bedding is 1" stops 1" after the lug... barrel is free floating from that point on..

Re: Help! Problems with 308

I usually bed 2-2.5"of the barrel beyond the recoil lug, rather than just 1", but that is just me. I also bed the lug on the action side and relieve it on the barrel side.

Separately, H-S Precision stocks have an aluminum bedding block which usually works quite well by itself. I have yet to bother bedding one, based on how the rifles shoot with the stocks as-is.

Re: Help! Problems with 308

That HS precision stock has a full aluminum bedding block, you might have to ream out the action screw holes to make sure that your screws arent touching the bedding block. This happened to mine. I reamed out the holes 1/8" over the size of the screws and my groups went from 3/4 MOA at 100 yds to less than half.
I also reduced the rear action screw torque to 45" lbs. The rear action really doesnt matter like the front does. Be careful torqueing the front screw to 65" lbs if its factory bottom metal. They have been known to crack.

So are you saying that you didn't bolt the action back down when you bedded it?
