It all depends on how deep your pockets are concerning ammo. The LM is a spendy round regardless of the fact of factory vs. reloaded ammo. The .338LM components are pricey as well, brass and bullets are both spendy if you plan on any trigger time behind the rifle.
As for the detachable mag system on the 700P's (.308), they were offered at one time but, IMHO, you are better off with a Badger or CDI set up. Granted, neither are cheap, but installed correctly, they run like they are on bearings. Not to mention the fact, the mags are easy to find and cheaper than the HS Prec. set ups.
FYI, I own a 700P MLR in .338LM, this being my second LM. I can tell you from experience....not a cheap round to shoot period.
