Help with 308 ammo choice.....

I don't reload yet and just got back into the 308 so I'll need to stock up on some factory ammo. These rifles (both 11.25 twist) will be primarily used for target practice and occasionally for hunting and I have no plans on shooting past 600 yards.

I like the idea of shooting 168gr FGMM to get the most out of my rifles at the longer ranges but there's so much more cheap ammo in the 150gr range, I thought it might do me better to just shoot one weight for everything and stick with the 150gr option so I can be more familiar with the ballistics.

Your thoughts?

For the price of 5 box's of ammo you can get an entry level reloading kit. Its the perfect time and scenario to start. Dont just settle for any ammo, roll some up for your rifles. A box of Lapua ammo will run about $2 a round, you can load your own for $1.40 ea initially then $0.60 each after. SMK over winny brass for about $0.40.

IMHO reloading is taking your shooting to the next level.

I've never heard of South West Ammo so I'll check 'em out.....thanks!!

I actually have a press, scale and some dies (still need 308) so reloading is definitely in the cards but I'm just short on time. I work 50+ hours/week behind a desk and still have a couple young kids so taking the time to just go hunting/shooting is a stretch sometimes.

I will hopefully start reloading before too long but, in the meantime, I'd like to get in as much time as possible at the range. Not trying to make excuses, just trying to put my time/effort in the best direction and, when I can get away, I'd much rather spend time at the range making 1x fired brass for down the road than just about anything else (especially once I picked up my AR500 steel targets).

No experience with factory 150s but Nosler CC 168s, and Hornady Amax 168s are both lower cost than FGMM here, Noslers by a fair amount. Not that they all will, but my rifle shoots the Amaxs better than the Fed, Nos about the same.
