Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

My preferred bullet
shoots as good as scenar costs less works great on game
whats not to like
AMAX very good bullets

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

Had a buddy get close to 3400 rounds down the last tube with no set back !!!!!!!!

however he was using 123 scenar's not the amax's

pretty impressive on round count

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

Yes, have taken them past 600... to 1K.

I've taken the 120Amax to 1K as well...

A dose of Re17 under it will getcha there.

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

IMR 8208 XBR is another powder to look at. I was previous shooting 123 Scenar with RE15 but it is a bit temperature sensitive. I tested IMR 8208 XBR and it did tighten the groups but haven't shot in the heat yet.

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

Please expound on XBR & the 6.5x47. From all the research I've done, it shoots well but leaves something to be desired in the velocity department.
I'm all ears!

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

I know its not a "normal" load for lighter stuff
however got good velocity and
super accuracy with 40.0 H4350 saturday 123's fed205m

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

Hard to believe that .3 more powder will make
it pucker up that much !

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

No, I'm using a Hornady comparator.

Be careful running that fast. I changed pills due to throat erosion so I have a little more in the boiler room than usual. 38.5 gave me a vertical spread, 39.0 a horizontal and 39.3 brought them together. Going to try it at 385m this weekend to see if they stay together. Much of our shooting is done between 425 and 925 yards. You never know what will happen to a load when it is stretched out. I am using a Tubbs muzzle brake which you can use to tune harmonics to a point.

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

I went out this mornin and shot my first 2 groups with the A maxes
and I get 4 into a nice little sweet group
THEN I get one out in the boonies (about 1/2")

both groups of 5 had 4 tho diff in seating depth so what is causing that? ideas

Re: Help with 6.5x47 and 123 A max's

4 shots into almost same ragged hole 3/8" to 1/2" tops

and then one that sprouted wings and flew away another 1/2"
