I am starting a new 6.5 Creedmoor build and would like your opinion's.I have a Rem 700 action,Timney trigger,Bolt knob and bottom metal.I am going to use this rifle for hunting/benchrest.I Need your opinion on barrel contour and brand.I am going to use a manners EHi stock. Thanks

A medium contour is the perfect contour (IMHO) for a multipurpose rifle. A Remington Varmint or Sendero. Rock Creek's Sendero is slightly thicker than what Bartlein calls a Sendero. Brux didn't make that "Sendero" until we asked them to do so, and now they call it the Accurate Ordnance Varmint contour. That is what I am using on my rifles. I've got a Rock Creek on my .308 and a Brux on my 6.5 Creedmoor. Bartleins are also a favorite of mine. Sounds like you are leaning a little more towards a lighter weight rifle. With the lighter stock, I'd go with the Remington Varmint contour. I think it would balance better.

We stock all three of those MFGs. If you are local and want to stop into the shop to look at and feel different contours, come on by.

Thanks for the reply.I talked to Bartlein and we were thinking of a 24# barrel that finished out at .750 at the muzzle 1/8 twist.Do any of those contours measure that?

LOL I might be,I have 2 of them and they are very good shooters.I don't know if they make a 1/8 twist or not.Just trying to get some opinions.

Since you are indeed planning on using this for hunting, then
choosing Sendero/RemVar class barrel contour or similar as
mentioned above is good advice. A Sendero class bbl can
be carried/ hunted with, and will still hammer tight holes from
a bench just fine.

As far as barrel brands, I am sure plenty of shooters have
their favorite and would name one in particular if they had
to pick one, but there are many great barrel manufacturers
nowadays. Choosing the right competent gunsmith to do your build
and install your barrel to suit your needs is probably just
as / or more important than barrel brand, IMO.

Barrel availability is another factor when considering your build.
Do you want to wait months for a specific brand or type barrel?
Some guys do, I probably would not, because I am not partial
to just one brand barrel. If my build had other components
that create a wait time, such as an action or stock not completed
yet, then perhaps I would be just order a barrel as well.
But since you have everything in hand already, and the only
thing left to acquire for your build is the barrel, then I would
look to source the barrel from someone who has one in stock
that meets your criteria. And start there.

Barrel blanks often time pop up here for sale at reduced
prices, making them a bargain, because they available
now and priced down some.

Since you have everything but your blank, I would find
one in stock somewhere and not focus on brand name.

Please do advise when you get it built with pics!

Your correct,I am not stuck on one particular brand.I am just concerned with weight so it seems to me I am looking for a contour that's in the middle of the road that will probably have to be special ordered.I like the Shilen 5 1/2 contour and can get one of those but I hate Shilen blanks.JMO

If you want it to end at .750 for hunting and maybe a tac match or for some group shooting I'd look at the light palma. Should meet those needs perfect. If you want a little heavier I'd try one of the gap varmint contours. I'd stick with Bartlein, they make awesome barrels.
