I am in the process of building a scout m14. I have an LRB bolt and Fulton receiver. The bolt will not go into battery. I have read that fulton didn't relieve the left lug area to make a smooth transition for the bolt to lock.

Can that area of the receiver be relieved? Or should I contact Fulton and LRB?

There is a PDF I found that shows the relief cut on LRB, Springfield, and I believe SEI.

Those investment cast rec are very hard metal - have you considered something is clearly out of spec, my guess being the Fulton rec, I have never owned one nor understand why others would buy one when LRB / SEinc make better units for similar cost.

IMO any receiver that needs mods from the get go is one to avoid - the bolt should function in a stripped rec. LRB will be no help as they only work on there own rec's & fulton will want to sell you one of their bolts "eye roll" followed by we will fit it for you for this much $$ if you mod the rec you will likely void any hope for warranty.

My suggestion ditch the Fulton & send your bolt & barrel off to LRB with a check & FFL you will get a decent barreled action back.

Bugs pretty much nailed it. Fulton receivers are not worth the effort. Sell it for what you have in it, and upgrade to LRB or SEI. I've heard nothing but good news about James River's Rock-ola's, but I have not built any rifles with their receivers (and they are the same price as Smith's).

Oh boy, thanks a bunch "HD-Ghost" i just went to their website, the M21 DMR with scope mount looks like it will be my next varmint rifle build instead of another LRB M25, glad to see LRB getting some competition in that market FINALLY!!! Lower your price or lose sales!!!

I have built some rifles with 7.62mm forged rec's as well, very nice product never had a issue, have two sequential rec's sitting here in the boxes, however I have heard negative on customer support from them which I deemed as being overwhelmed at the time when they entered the market. oh been awhile, now I remember what turned me off with 7.62mm they offered TFL rec's I needed 4 from what I understand they never produced them :(

Call fulton man. Something may very well be out of spec.

Got the bolt to close with no modifications. Just had to wear it in a bit. Seems all is well.

And I'm just going to ignore the comments about Fulton Armory being shit. I've read all the debates about Forged vs. Cast over on M14. It's useless to debate. LRB makes a fine product, they are way out of my price range and aren't worth it to me.

As far as SEI, I will never buy anything from Ron Smith, he is an asshole and also sues over forum posts.

If you read my original post, I mention that PDF.

Anyway. Everything fit fine, the bolt is lapped in and the headspace is set. Rifle is almost ready for a test fire.

Heat lot on the bolt is 00.
