I'm looking to do another AR build with a red dot set up. Here is a little of where I've been. The AR I have is a S&W M+P T that first had a eotech 553 w/ 4X magnifier. I was a hugh fan of this setup but was worried about battery life and all the reports of field failures (even though I never experienced any). I ended up selling that setup for an acog TA31-F. I also like this setup, but the eye relief was tuff for me to get use to. I've looked into the doc mounted on top and a 45 degree mount but wasn't crazy about having anything hanging off to the side. SOOO I sold that and purchased a TA11 after alot of research and many forum IM's. I'm very happy with this setup but I kinda miss my red dot some? With that I'm thinking of building a simple bushmaster with a flat top for a red dot. Either that or another M+P T? I would like to put faith back into eotech but I'm not sure if I'm there yet? I like the idea of the XPS but would like to see some real field results first. Keep in mind my weapons are target horses, but I practice with them and rely on they for any SHTF situation. Saying all that to ask this... The other red dot I was looking into was just putting a simple trijicon RMR on a high mount on the flat top. I would get the red 4MOA dot. Whats the battery life on these units? I'm sure it would be durable enough since they claim its built as tuff as the acog. I would think this would make a nice light weight QCB rifle. Has anyone else done this? I know it depends on your eyes and the shooter, but was a realistic range for thus red dot? If you wanted to could you mount somekind of magnifier to it?? Or does anyone feel the eotech can be trusted again??? I know it would be cheaper, but I know trijicon's stuff is built very well. Let me know what you guys think? Thanks.
