Id really appreciate some help here. I have a 2 yr old Remington 1187 super magnum semi auto shotgun. I typically shoot 3 1/2in loads from it. But I'm doing some crow hunting and now need to shoot 2 3/4in shells. The owners manual instructs me to put in a reducing ring on around the magazine tube in order to shoot the smaller shells. I followed the directions in the manual, however, once the ring is in place, the hammer will no longer drop when the trigger is pulled. I also notice that the charging handle does not appear to be all the way forward. I've pulled the trigger group out and it appears to be working. I can manually cock the hammer and pull the trigger and the hammer wants to drop. Any ideas?

Sounds like it isn't going into battery. You can put the barrel seal activator in it, but odds are it won't work for you with light loads much less 2 3/4.
Did you get the seal put back in the right way? If not this can screw everything up and keep the barrel from seating correctly.
Good luck.

Re: Help with Remington 1187 Shotgun

When I remove the barrel seal activator and reassemble the gun, the gun cycles and works perfectly. i usually run the gun without the barrel seal activator, because I typically shoot 3in or 3 1/2in magnum high velocity loads. But now im shooting 2 3/4in 1350fps loads for crow. So I put the barrel seal activator over the magazine tube, then put the rubber O-ring on, slid the barrel assembly over the magazine tube and seated it into the reciever. Put the handguard back on. And when I pull the bolt back, and then let it go forward, ie to cock the gun....a pull of the trigger will not cause the hammer to fall. I dont understand. Im following the directions as far as I can tell. I only have this problem when I put the barrel seal activator in. here is a pic of the ring giving causing the problem:

Re: Help with Remington 1187 Shotgun

Sounds like some excess carbon build up in the gas collar on the barrel maybe. Something isn't letting the activator seat. There wasn't already a seal or activator up in it that is in the way is it? If the slide is back too far it trip the disconnect and keeps the hammer from firing, which is why it works when you take the TPA out and test it.
Investigate further and update with details.
