Hi All,

I am about to order the following setup. I'm sure you can tell from the list that I am on a budget but still want to attempt to put together a quality rifle. My budget is $1000.00

Rem. 700 SPS Tactical .223
Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 PA
EGW Remington 700 Picatinny Rail Tactical Scope Mount
Burris Xtreme Tactical Picatinny Style Rail 30mm Rings

Can you tell me what height of rings I need for this setup?

Is there anything about this setup you would change? If so what would you swap for and why?

Do you think this will be an ok shooter? My intended use for this gun is punching paper at 300 yards. Every once in a while I'll have an opportunity to go out to 600 yards.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Re: Help with ring size

Have you already purchased your scope...or are you looking to buy new? Reason I ask... Cameraland Inc. has the model you list...with a V Plex Wide reticle for $279.99. http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/vortex.pl?page=vortexviper6-20x44 A year or so ago, I got in on the same Viper but with the 50mm front objective for $279. They are really decent scope for the money!

I think low...maybe medium rings would work. I don't know the thickness of the EGW base.

Good Luck,

Wayne
