Anyone know if it’s possible to remove the Tennebraex adapter ring on the ocular side of an ultrashort? Scared to start wrenching on it before I know it’s good to take off

Yeah man, I’d be calling S&B on that one before doing anything. I just bought a non-ultra short 3-20 with that sort of eyepiece, but I’m in bed and don’t want to go downstairs lol sorry.

But my memory is that it’s a one-piece thing. If it’s not, they must’ve really wrenched it on there as the Tenebraex cover exerts some turning force when adjusting the angle in which the cover opens.

It’s certainly threaded, I can tell that much. It’s either really torqued on or epoxied in place. I shot them an email but don’t have my hopes up on actually getting a response.
Are you in the US? Maybe you know that Jerry left and they shut down the US service center, but the lady there now is pretty responsive.

I first called and got a voicemail. A bit dispirited, I didn’t leave a vm but I emailed the general US email address. I inquired about options for installing different turrets and she called me back right away and we had a nice discussion.

She then reached out to Germany and called me back the next day. Not Jerry-level service, but good.

Might that be a diopter set ring?

ARD devices are used on the objective end...

On some S&B scopes (and other brands too), the manufacturer has decided to semi-permanently affix the Tenebraex scalloped adapter ring, only in metal.

That ring is usually a plastic adapter that goes on in-between the Tenebraex cover and the scope, and allows for detents as you rotate the cap opening angle on the fly.

The Tenebraex plastic aftermarket scalloped rings are available for both ends of the scope for use with the Tenebraex caps.

But (as mentioned) S&B has integrated metal glued on versions straight from the factory.

Hopefully that makes sense.

And the OP doesn’t want to use the Tenebraex system and the scalloped ring interferes with his chosen cap.

Hm, what do you know... I'll leave this here in case anyone is ever wondering in the future:

"Hello Luke,

this is Matias from the service department in Germany.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend you to try to remove the ring as it is screwed on tight and secured with thread locker. You may damage the connection between the eyepiece and the rifle scope during this process. Because this connection is probably easier to undo than the ring.

Do you not like the tenebreax caps?

I wonder if you sent the scope in if they’d swap the scalloped ring with the rubber one? Here’s mine on a 5-25.

I know it would declass the setup a bit (lol but Butler Creek amirite?), but the Vortex Defender caps would probably fit over that scalloped ring.

Not sure if the MKM or Aadmount caps fit.
