This will be mainly used as a plinking gun and some squirl and other small critter gun. I need some help picking a scope. Please let me know what and why. My budget is 300 max but would prefer to get rings in the budget too.

    Thanks guys!

In your budget a used super sniper would be hard to beat. besides that a lot of people on rimfire central swear by the Mueller apt its sub 200 if I remember correctly good glass positive adjustment adjustable objective mildot its got a lot of good features and good reliability for the price. I can't remember hearing about any going tits up esp on a .22.

I have been looking for a 6X SS for a good bit... problem is a really want the flexibility of the 3-9 or 4-12 scopes. The Mueller APV does get some good reviews... just never owned a Mueller and not sure on their CS.

    Thanks for the reply

Seriously, the Tasco VAR2510X42M and VAR624X42M are hard packages to beat as entry level scopes.

I have two of the former, and 4 of the latter, and even use one of the 6-24's for my custom FV250 Savage comp rifle, a .30BR, shot on an F-Class equivalent target at 250yd. Last time out, I shot second best score to a 6mmBR in the hands of an old and wily BR shooter and good friend; so I don't feel handicapped in any way by my optics.

BTW, you should have plenty of buckage left over from your $300 for rings and such; and there's no reason why an entry level scope can't ride a decent mount.

I got a call from my uncle earlier today. He has a vortex crossfire 4-12x40AO that he said he would take 80.00 and it has never been out of the box. What do you guys think of this?
