Hey everyone,

This is my first post in the forums but wanted to hear you folks' opinions on a scope for the Tavor?

I am having extreme difficulty deciding on a scope for this rig. I have read a bunch of your posts with advice about deciding what range and what context your rifle will be used and plan for scope in that category. The difficulty I am having though, is that the Tavor is such a versatile, jack of all trades type platform. I definitely like to use it CQB type as the balance is better than a SBR. However, if it is the only rifle I have with me, it is capable of reaching to 400yds+ being a 16in 223 barrel. Thus my dilemma.

I'd like a quality scope for mostly RDS type CQB, with the option of being able to take that 400yd shot if needed. Currently, I am in between the ACOG RCO, Leupold AR mod1 1x4 and the Vortex Razor HD II 1-6x. Concerns I have on these...

ACOG - 4x only, so BAC with that scope is doable. Nice weight. Could mount RMR on top.
Leupold - Lightweight as well. How good is the SPR firedot at CQB and the mil dot reticle good for 400+yds?
Vortex Viper - Love this scope, but has BDC reticle and HEAVY. The Tavor already weighs about 9 lbs, although better balanced. 2lbs for scope and mount is still heavy to sling.

I am open to any suggestions and price points. I was considering the Elcan 1-4x, but since I have two bullpups and like to keep things in pairs, to Elcans is a tough pill to swallow.

Thank you all for the time and advice in advance. I tried a search to see if this thread was already posted, but didnt see any - so, I would apologize if this thread was already asked.

If the price of the genII Razor isn't an issue, it is an awesome little scope, as others have said. It is tough to beat for a high end 1-6x. The SWFA SS 1-6x is killer too.

If price is a factor, I really like the Trijicon accupoint 1-4x triangle.

With a 300 yard zero, you'll be dead on at 32 yards for CQB, dead on at 300 yards (of course), and 13" low at 400 yards. The true 1x is a nice seamless sight picture on the Triji and is comfortable on the eye balls. I've seen them on sale as low as $675 online. They are super light weight too, and no batteries. Would be a great match for a Tavor, IMO.

Good points.

The Vortex Viper Gen 2 is pretty awesome. My only concern on the Tavor is that it takes the setup from 9lbs to 11lbs. Right now, I flipped it onto my POF p415 with bipod because its heavy.

Price is usually not factor, except when we are talking about buying two Elcans!

The accupoint sounds good too. How does the eye box compare to the Trijicon? I am going to get outside tomorrow and try the TA31 RCO, but as with Trijicon ACOGs, you have to get up on them for a good sight pic. Not very user friendly for quick acquisition CQB. The BAC method however does work pretty well. I'll take out the Viper 1-6x gen 2 as well.

Thanks to all so far for the inputs. I'll have to research all recommended...
Accupoint 1-4x
Viper PST 1-4x
Eotech XPS 3 w/Magnifier

I have only brief experience with a EOTech / magnifier combo. There was no blooming or distortion that I noticed. After owning several EOTechs, the biggest thing I notice is a grainy reticle. Glass quality and lack of blooming is what drew me towards the holographic sights.

I was thinking of that too. I'll look in to weight and all...Since I have not had the opportunity to look through both, is there any blooming or distortion on image with the magnifier to hinder MR shot opportunities?

I've narrowed some scopes down for the Tavor.

However, I keep coming back to the Reflex sights/RDS. Right now I am in between the Mepro21 and the Eotech XPS3-4. Both have magnifiers. Do you folks recommend one over the other? I have not had any experience with either so any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

I have a tavor, and IMO the MK6 is the best optic for it. Lightweight, clear glass, and good range. It will also fit between the BUIS so you can still use them without taking the optic off.

Cobra,

Great idea, but $2100+? Damn. Normally I wouldnt be adverse to spending that much on a scope for a quality rifle, however, I do have 2 of each platform and need similar scopes for each. Currently I am needing duplicate scopes (7 in total) for
Tavor x2
POF P415s x2
POF P308s X2
Savage 24in 308 Bolt

I really wanted to save that kind of cash for premier scopes for the Savage and POF P308s, figuring I could get away with above average scopes for the Tavors and P415s. However, if this is not good planning, I am 100% open to suggestions.

Then sell the junk. POF are pieces of overpriced shit. Why do you need 7 duplicate scopes?

The tavors are great and fun, but they arent replacing AR's for serious work anytime soon.

Sell the 415's and buy two Sr15's, DD or BCM rifles. Throw a Aimpoint or Eotech on one and a ACOG or 1-4/6x on the other. Now you have two quality AR's setup for CQB and for shooting out a bit longer.

Sell the P308's and buy a quality 308 rifle. This depends if you want to shoot precision long range (which .308 sucks compared to options on market) or just accurate battle rifles. SCAR17 owns this realm as far as a jack of all trades rifle. If you need extreame precision, look at GAP, KAC or JP. The MK6 1-6 is great on a SCAR17, and keeps with the lightweight, agile and accurate profile.

Sell the Savage and buy a quality bolt gun. I am not a fan of M700's as they require to much work and money to unfuck them from the factory, and by the time you do that, you can have a high end custom action. Look at Tikka T3 Sporter/tac, FN SPR, TRG22 or Styer SSG for high quality, mid priced bolt guns in .308. All of them will hang with most custom guns, at half the price. Buy a good base, rings/mount and glass and your good to go.

I ran a T1 style optic on the tavor and was not a fan. I am just not that big of a Aimpoint fan. The eotech was much faster and did not require the exact head possition. Tavor is a bit heavy but it ballances so well when shouldered, the extra weight from a 1-6x really doesn't matter when your shooting. I preffer the 1-4/6x over a EO/AP with 3/4x for the weight savings.

I second that he said. Well done.
