Re: Helps ID'ing an older Leupold scope.

Just trying to determine what model it is. This rifle was just given too me by my father inlaw for an early Christmas gift. He just bought it this morning. No history or documents came with package.

Re: Helps ID'ing an older Leupold scope.

The Vari-X II 3-9X was first introduced in 1965 with the AO (adjustable objective) version hitting the market in 1983.

It looks like that's the one in your photo.

Leupold had some trouble with the anodizing back then, the more the scope was exposed to UV rays (sunlight) the worse they got.

No BR , it's an 81' vintage Rem 700BDL, long action in 30.06. I'm still good with it since I load for 30.06, when My father in law told me about it at first sugarplum fairies dancing in my head were hoping for a SA in the 200000 sn range marked US on the side. Then he said it was 30.06 and the dream died. But I could still use the help on getting rid of some bodies.

Re: Helps ID'ing an older Leupold scope.

I had an old 10X and the anodizing looked as good as that one. I called Leupold and asked about having it freshened up and they told me they would swap it out for a new 12x at no charge. I thought that was great for a company to do that on a used product. That was back in '04. Not had a single problem with the new scope and it's been on a bunch of different rifles.

Re: Helps ID'ing an older Leupold scope.

I called and the tech guy said it was built in the late 60's pre vari-x labeling 3x9. Also if I had any problems to return it for warranty work. So far scope is good, clear optics and I'll leave it as is for now. Chris
