Hey ATV guys.. Want a plow for my Grizzly

Hey all,

I recently bought a new house with a rather long driveway so I've been thinking about getting a plow for my 09 Grizzly 350 IRS 4x4.

I'm guessing from reading that a 2,000lb winch is more than enough to pull my quad around, so that should be fine.

If I get a winch through Harbor freight, I'd also need a mount however I am not versed well enough to know what mounts fit what or if they are universal.

Also I'd need a plow and mount. Now, I don't necessarily need a push-button control for the winch, but one would be nice if it's not too pricy.

Can anyone recommend make/model/etc.. of the above items I would need for my quad?

Re: Hey ATV guys.. Want a plow for my Grizzly

I have a warn winch on mine, came with the quad as part of the factory deal. Just to note, the large ring gear of the planetary setup is Plastic. I was running my plow up until it contacted the bottom of the quad, subsequently I stripped the gear in about a year or so.

I also have a Moose plow, no real complaints other than the tires, which are the 27" ITP mud and snow tires hit the leveling pad spacers and pin clip when the plow is at full angle. Thus knocking the clip loose, the leveling washers, and skid pad fall in the snow.......somewhere.

BTW, I have the 660, and a 60" plow.

Re: Hey ATV guys.. Want a plow for my Grizzly

I install about 30 plow systems a year during the winter. I always recommend the Moose Plow system. A 50in plow will put you almost exactly the width of the quad. A lot of guys are doing the 60in now because when it's tilted, it'll still plow a clear path for the tires. I won't tell you to not buy a Harbor Freight winch, but you definitely get what you pay for. Basically like throwing a NcStar scope on a GAP. When there is 6 inches of snow on the ground at 3am, the last thing you want is a frozen up winch. Personally, I'd do a Warn 2000 winch. It comes with a nice toggle switch for the handlebars. Get a Moose 50 or 60 blade, Moose model specific winch mount, Moose model specific plow mount, and the Moose universal push tube. I've mounted Cycle Country, Moose, and Warn plows and would buy a Moose everytime.

Just noticed yours is a 350. I'd stick with a 50in blade. Also, make sure you get a standard winch cable. The new synthetic rope that comes on some winches sucks balls for plowing. It continues to wind tighter and tighter until you'll have to untangle and cut a few feet off. Specify a plow roller fairlead too. It has a larger roller on the bottom that will make your cable last a lot longer.

I got a moose plow on my Polaris Sportsman. Works great for driveway and in front of the house. I use a Warn 1500 winch that came with the quad. Been using it for 11 or 12 years and the olny thing I changed is the quad that its attached too.

Warn 1500 winch mounted on my Grizz700....Moose Grizz700 plow 50" width...buy once cry once...

Of course I also have a JD6420 with a 8' PTO mounted snowthrower....and of course all of this shit has been the biggest "Snow Insurance Policy" I ever bought..because we have not had enough snow to make a snowball since I spent the money...

Same exact shit happened to me. I was able to find all the spacers but the clip is still MIA for now. Had to deform a keyring and use that to hold the spacers in place. Other than that, the Moose plow works great. I control it was a 3500lbs Warn winch and it's all mounted on a Brute Force 750

Re: Hey ATV guys.. Want a plow for my Grizzly

On the winch cable idea. If you use a full length one they tend to get chewed up. Cut one that is maybe 6-10 ft. And use that, then remove it in the spring and put your standard one on. Got this off an atv forum, didn't do it, screwed up my full length cable, and then went this route. Trust me it's worth doing.

They also make a plow specific lead that's anywhere from 2ft to 8ft long. If you use a plow fairlead, standard cable, and a rubber cable bumper that prevents a hard lock of the cable, you will get several years of service out of a good winch.
