I'm going to NM in a month to visit a friend, I'm probably taking the bike because of go juice cost. Where is a good place to stay and hammock camp with a little sight seeing. Somewhere roughly here.

Park at the Reservoir in Pueblo is decent, usually go there for the water, not the great camping.
Not sure about trees for hammock use.
Not a lot of them, but a few.

I winter camp all the time, but use a top end mountaineering tent and gear, which would suck to haul on a bike volume wise.

Maybe just a cheap hotel?

Um, you will be right there at Pike National Forest. Sight seeing? How about a ride up to Pike's Peak? Garden of the Gods. The Minitou Cliff Dwellings. The Cave of the Winds. If you have the legs and lungs for it, hit the Manitou Incline. Some of the things we did when we vacationed in the area a couple of years ago.

Take I-25 south to exit 27, about 125 miles from Colorado Springs. Follow 44.0 Road west about a half mile to the Ludlow Monument.

A little piece of history that few know about. An interesting stop if you want to stretch a leg right then.

Thank you,
MrSmith

I didn't realize Garden of the gods was right there. Never heard of the Manitou incline, have to look in to it, thanks.

If you get to Springer NM and go about 3 miles west of town there is a lake with free overnight camping.
Pretty peaceful, no noise, never seen anyone there.
Bonus they say it's stocked with northern pike....no clue, never fished it.

Its usually considerably warmer east of I25 than west but it might be tough to find a tree to hang your hammock in east of I25. :ROFLMAO: There is big state park called Fishers peak by Trinidad as well, but it will almost assuredly to be warmer around Pueblo. There are some public land maps on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife sight.

Any of the greater metro areas along the Front Range offer ample urban camping. You might get harassed if you try and camp on someone else's corner but you should be able to find your special spot. Grab a piece of cardboard and you might make some money while camping.
Op, if you make it to the Denver area set your hammock up at 7th & Kalamath and I can spare a handful of change

Colorado Springs has everything you want

HOWEVER

March and April can be the snowiest months here. If you are on a bike, you are going to regret it

Also Be cautious of the Saxet drivers
If you stay in the Springs and get chilly in the hammock, try this 5 star place. I got a room on special for $95 one night. When I went into the restaurant for breakfast a hostess seated me. Before I could get seated the waiter had a big cloth napkin thrown across my lap. Never had service like that before, made a country bumpkin a bit nervous. Backs right up to the Rockies, worth a stop just to look it over.
