Whats up with the profile nazis? Seems like anyone new to the site or guys who just dont care to take the time to type in their "hobbies" get lit up if they post something.. Ive just noticed it and wondered if there was any particular reason? It seems like the question is posted, the nazi FIRST checks the profile, THEN decides if the OP is worthy of an answer... I guess this is kind of a vent now that I brought it up.. I think its stupid... IMO

I think the reason people want a profile, ambiguous as they often are, is so that in time, veracity can be determined. As most of us are in fact shooters to some extent, eventually we may link up with fellow members and get to know them.

Thus when someone goes on and on about their extensive collection of GAP, AI, TRG and Surgeon rifles as well as USO and Nightforce scopes among their other collections, built over a lifetime of service as a Navy SEAL and CEO of a porn studio, then turns out to be lying sack of excrement, eventually he is found out.

The profile speeds up the process.

Just my theory since Lord knows anti-gun snoopers would never think to conjure up a handle and profile in an attempt to dupe the less restrained members into saying quotable bombastic or nonsensical things to be aired on ACTION NEWS.

A filled-out profile is only required by the board rules when you are posting items for sale.

Period. End of story.

However, it may be to a member's advantage to post his or her location, as that may lead to contact with other members in the same area for assistance or simply comradeship with people of similar interests.

When someone asks about gear or an issue, its nice for other members to know if they are close.

An offer to try something or look at a problem is pretty common, but only works if we know where they are.

The internet is a very faceless, impersonal thing, its nice to get a feel for who you are talking to. A complete profile is a step towards personalizing this.

Not just this site, but others as well. I wonder how many times a poster ask for help or information yet don't have their location listed in their profile. Wonder how many times there could be a member right down the street who can help them out, one on one.

Also I believe a question can better be answered if others knew the back grounds of a poster.
