Hi all.

Brit expat in the US, permanent resident now. Got my first pistol this year (Sig P226 legion) and am now building up a compliant ‘featureless’ rifle. We own about 7 acres in ulster county, NY. Lot of deer, bear, wild turkeys running around. Occasional timber rattlesnake and copperhead. Ticks. Britain doesnt have this kind of wildlife. You guys are nuts for putting up with it ;p

it’ll be a long time before I’m a competent shot; I’m left eye dominant, right handed, and last shot in the cadets 20 years ago. So ;p

Hoping to learn something by skulking around here. First order of business for me is working out what I do to get good height and eye relief on my LPVO - to be compliant I’m building a fightlite SCR with proof carbon barrel. The SCR has a low ‘monte carlo’ bolt style stock on an AR compatible lower.

Figure I can either use loooow badger rings, or get a single piece platform which is higher but will give me offset from the upper without bridging to the handguard, and then use accu-riser or similar padding on the stock to raise my cheek weld. We’ll see. Probably go for the riser.

Anyhow. That’;s it for me. 223 for now, and if all works out enjoyable perhaps I’ll build a valkyrie or creedmor bolt action next year ;p

Cheers,

Matt

Depending on how Left eye dom ( assuming you're Right handed) you may have to close the left eye.

Welcome to the US, though NY is about as far from the US as you can get in the US

I’d take a look at 223 wylde chambering, and JP rifles. I also know of some people who would build a normal AR, but do a little magic with a screw to make it “fixed mag” and not have to mess with the rest of all that. Ofcourse tons of people in NY also have normal ARs

No need to do a "fixed mag" build, just go with a target crown, spur grip and fixed stock.

"Featureless" build that eliminates the fixed mag absurdity.

FUAC compliant and NY Legal.

Yep. That's why fightlite for the first build.

No pistol grip.
No telescoping or folding stock.

Good old cowboy lines.

General purpose rifle. I hope it'll be accurate to 500, but we'll see.

JP maybe after that ;p
