I'm new to this forum, so let me start by saying hello. You guys have a real nice setup here... I hope to learn a lot.

Anyway, just picked up my first personal precision rifle (well at least my first that wasn't issued by the government).... A TRG 22. My question has to do with match grade ammo.

I know that most rifles have a particular grain/brand that hold tighter groups than others. I was wondering what the consensus of Sako owners are using? I'm referring to store bought match rounds, not hand loads.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: Hey Sako TRG 22 Owners...

I've shot FGMM 168 with really good results. One of the benefits of the TRG is that it supposedly isn't very picky. Steer clear of the cheaper stuff, though. Mine sprayed Prvi. Talking 2.5 MOA groups at short range. I've heard they don't like the Hornady lighter loads (150 or 155, can't remember), but I have no experience with these. Maybe someone else can weigh in.

BTW, welcome to the club. Great choice!

Re: Hey Sako TRG 22 Owners...

With my 3 previous TRGs they were not picky at all like mammal said. 175s, 168s, FGM, Black hills, and hornady all did will in mine.

You sure did a good job on picking a great rifle is all i can say. I will always view the sako trg 22 as the most accurate out of the box rifle that can be purchased.

If you do ever decide to reload, you have lots of guys here to help you with a trg 22 load as well.

Re: Hey Sako TRG 22 Owners...

I reload for mine but I have had great results with 155, 168, 175 smk. My load right now is 43.5 varget, Lapua, 175 SMK, 2.815 COAL. I am not putting to much effort into reloading for this rifle but this load gives me a solid 1/2 MOA out to 600yds. 20inch barrel, velocity is 2540FPS

Same here but around 2920. Went to the 155.5 when I heard Berger was going to discontinue their 155 match. With 155.5 FB had to change nothing and shoots just as well as their 155 match and it shot VEEEEEERY well.

Mike,

What are the components for that load?

26inch Barrel? Or 20? I am assuming 26inch?

Re: Hey Sako TRG 22 Owners...

I REALLY recommend that you reload, but as far as factory ammo, mine likes 175gr SMKs a lot. So Black Hills is probably your best bet for factory ammo thats pretty easy to find.
