i keep hearing about people getting different mags to fit a stock savage bottom metal, but no one has posted any pictures. its just a guy says he saw a guy at the range that had this or that fitted to his rifle. and why has no one done anything to copy, knock off or come out with another system to utilize the savage upper part and add a hi cap box on the bottom. SSS literally cannot make these fast enough and when they do make 80-100 of them, they are sold before they are even made and then the next 80-100 are almost all sold too. you cant tell me there isnt a market. im down for 3 or 5. there are people here waiting as well

My neighbor and good friend owns a very high end machine shop, he is not a "firearms enthusiast" but makes a couple of the components for several Barrett's. I've shown him the Savage magazine and how it retains itself and he didn't see a problem in making one simply longer and you'd have to find a spring to replace the current one. He simply does not have the time with all their work. I don't understand why that SSS company put the time into making an extension magazine for 9 rounds? I mean R&D was non-exsistant there!

I thought about that, the only problem is that you won't be able to adjust seating depth very much. However, it's good idea for a guy who doesn't care about that. I know the factory Savage mags are actually pretty damn long. My rounds in my short action are seated to 2.928 and have plenty of room in the mag

ive got the SSS and if you try... you can fit 10 in there. but 9 or 10 isnt really the issue and R&D isnt either. lets just get all chicom and let someone start to copy them as is. anything that will wake up SSS and get these things available. dedicate a machine and a guy to crank these things out as fast as possible and not have people waiting since May (still) with money waving in hand or considering a $300 DBM to use a different $80 mag. it just dont make sense. if i had a product that was sold before i even made it, im sure i would find a way to get that made in volume and get that money before someone else did. its a great mag, mine works better than the factory 4 rounder

just saying

Aside from any legalities I just wouldn't want an "add on to the bottom" factory magazine. I'd much rather spend my money on a built from the bottom up magazine that would work in the Savage DBM.

I'm with you, thought about ordering a couple nine rounders from SSS but then started hearing about how long it takes to get them, pay for them up front and wait for months, etc. Then I saw Fred's "Acme BM" or whatever he calls it, but figured it's way more expensive and not sure I need it.(I do like the looks of the rear mag release). I would just like some higher cap. mags for my 10PC.

well the thing is, the top part is perfect. its already designed. its where the catch seats itself. adding the box to the bottom is really all you need for the extra capacity. thats what the SSS mag is, just an "add on bottom" and its a proven design and seller and mine works flawlessly. i wish one of the mag companies would design a mag, but i think that the way it works with the stock 4 rounder fitting flush to the bottom necessitates the box to position it in the way that the flush bottom does. any new design would require something on the sides i think to keep it centered in the well.

somethings gotta give soon. there are countless people waiting, prepaid in some cases since may of this year. im gonna try to snag 4 or more when they call me eventually.

Re: hi cap mags for savage? any progress?

i've been so frustrated with this. I'm tempted to just go hire a machine shop to extend my mags for me. I considered a cdi after talking to jeff about his fix for the bolt release but i honestly am not sure when i'd be able to send my gun to fl, not to mention the cost difference.

regarding the rumours, has anyone ever mentioned what brand mags they actually used to fit to the stock bottom metal? or better yet, does anyone have the dimensions of the stock savage 4rd mag to compare for the best match?

I believe the .308 aics mags measure:
Width - .975" at the rear
- .858" at the front
Length -3.858"
