High quality soft bag?

I had an Armageddon precision rifle soft case and I will never buy another soft case without a full length double zipper.

This case looks interesting. It’s available in 56”

That is kinda neat.

Not a full-length zip for ya, however! Bipod might still get hung up on that one; I gotta agree, a full-length zip is pretty important.

I like how they size the case by ID instead of OD. But no provision for a shoulder strap?

I don’t need a double zip though…the full-length zip Armageddons only have one zip and I haven’t ever missed the other one.

Thanks for sharing that!

The Bulldog case (BDT80-54T) is "good enough" for the money, IMO. I bought one for a T3x CTR because it was the most appropriate the LGS had and I needed one right now. I only use to go from home to the flat square range and back again, so YMMV.

The thing I dislike the most is that the rifle doesn't fit with bipod attached (AccuTac PC-5). The bipod ends up going in the front, long zippered pocket and doesn't zip all the way. Ammo (.223) boxes go in the middle pocket.

Pockets are a bit shallow, IMO. The internal straps are OK but I'd prefer they secure the forend of the rifle more.

If I were taking it anywhere but the range, I'd have already gone a different route. As it is, I'm considering a TacOps bag to not have to think about it again.

But for a basic to and from the range transport bag, I'd buy it again for the $90 or $100 I paid.

Weird. That bipod doesn’t look that wide when collapsed. I can get rifles in my Bulldog with a Cal attached.

I agree with you on your other points, except that I never use the internal straps.
I think it's the height, the pan/cant mechanism makes it taller than fixed versions.

I'll double-check when I get home.

How’s that fit with the can and bipod attached? I see the case is brand new, congrats!
Fits just fine. And that’s a pic from last may when I got it. Held up wonderfully, just got back from Clays and we had some good rain on Sunday, rifle stayed dry. Literally pool of water sitting on it and didn’t soak through. Worth the price imo.

👍 Yeah, I like mine (except for already listed issues). Really well made.

I'm debating a new case also, narrowed down to the Triad and AG. ATX, 26" barrel with 419 HFM, 40 folded, 48 open, trying to decide on whether or not I want to transport folded or not, stored in safe folded so it fits I there. Leaning on the Triad, either one is a wash concerning the exterior pockets in which I don't want much. I use the LRA bipod, so it's transported off the gun(s).
Did have a Savior case, way too heavy, way too many pockets, etc.

Best deal around, plenty of foam for protection, backpack straps and it costs $85.00, there is a longer one for $95.00. I have a few of these that I have using for almost 10 years and they are still in great shape!

Oh shit I forgot about those!

Guess what? The Bag Whore himself owns one!

You should see my bag spreadsheet lol.

I have a 58” one lol. That thing is THE most padded case ever. And I really like the backpack straps location, as the butt of the case doesn’t smack your legs as you walk (looking at you, AIM 55”). Of course, that means it sticks up a mile, but I’ll take that trade-off. Huge pocket.

But goddamnit, for me one is too short, and one is too long. And for my weird application, they’re too thick to play nice with 3-4 other cases all lined up crosswise in the passenger compartment.

I cannot overemphasize how thick that case is.

You are going to have a terrible time finding a (edit: single-rifle) case that will fit a folded rifle if it’s not explicitly designed for that application. AIM has two of those, both ~42” long.

Maybe a Midway drag bag guy with a folder can test that bag, as it’s designed for two rifles (@hafejd30). I’ll go and see if the Bulldog (internally the girthiest I have) can handle a folded AIAT.

I swear I’ve done this but cannot remember.

It did fit folded into the Eagle M4 Drag Bag with the shorter barrel and since I added the longer barrel, the only case I have that fits is an older Blackhawk 40" AR case. Not ideal, tight but works. Yes, the AT is fatter, but this folds to the right over the bolt.

Hoping someone has the Triad, 42 with a folder with pics?

This AIM is for right-folders. Internally 40.5”.

If you do buy a non-double rifle case sight-unseen, do call beforehand and ask if it’ll fit a folder.

I looked at those, seem nice but I really don't want to drop 350 on Chinese plastic and foam in which will most likely disintegrate in a few years. I could be wrong though.

I own the AIM 55, and the only knock I have against it is no shoulder strap. I pull out just one backpack strap instead, and works ok. It’s made very well…I can tell the outer fabric isn’t USA Cordura but it’s good. If my AG is a 10, the AIM is a 9-9.5.

You might try to order straight from them, as if you’re in the USA you’d get a much better deal, unless shipping costs eat that up. I ordered direct a few years ago.

The Mile High agreement might preclude that now.

Onto the AIAT folder tests. As some know, this is a left folder, which means it’s extra thick folded as the bolt knob sticks out. The butt is also thick. Maybe a worst-case folding scenario?

My setup:
AIAT 6BR 24” barrel, 1.5” high Spuhr mount, bipod attached but had no effect. Bolt knob was down.

CREEDMOOR SPORTS 55” 👍 tight, but works.

Okie, tks. How is the height on those? If you don't mind, the height of your rifle? Looks like if I don't fold, the AG or Creedmoor would work.
Guessing the foam is closed cell on the AG, Creedmoor? I would only fold if I went with the 42 Triad.

All closed cell foam. The only bag I’ve ever seen with open cell foam is the Champion’s Choice bag that was mentioned earlier.

Height: I’ll measure when I get home.

Pulled out ye olde bag spreadsheet…

Another option: Something tells me one of these Hogue double rifle bags might work if you want to carry it folded. Don’t know where they’re made, but they have YKK zips?

For me, of course, they go from 52” right to 64”. 😔

As I mentioned prev, I’d call TacOps and Triad and ask about folder fitment. Either would be a great USA option.

My AIAT’s height is approx 10”-10.5” from the top of the elevation turret to the bottom of the grip.

My rifle is at/about 11.5, I bet with the new trend of higher scopes, we will need to see some taller bags?
I messaged AG, see what shakes out.
For reference, my R700 in a W3 chassis, 1.5” scope mount is 10.5”-10.75” high. Unfolded and without a bipod it fits in all of my AG bags (52”, 58”, half-zip, full-zip).

Update: My Bulldog’s zipper peeled open in the middle & the shoulder strap snapped and fell apart. Like, at the same time! I was super lucky. Almost dropped the rifle.

No longer recommended.

I’m trying to go back and update my old reviews on the thing. Pretty disappointing.

Happened to my cabellas bag...It sucks because repair costs on long zippers are not cheap, probably a ± $100 repair bill. So basically you can't fix it economicaly. You can buy a new $100 bag, but it will do the same thing...

Never had it happen with one of my Armageddon bags🤔
Yeah, me neither. Too bad the Bulldog had a better design (in many respects) but worse construction than my roughly eight Armageddon bags.

Wound up with ~8 because I bought a batch when they came with half-zips, and then another batch when I discovered they would make me full-zips.

However, I’m catching your sarcasm, but remember, I’m a bag whore lol. Always looking for something better designed. It’s a weakness; kinda stupid, I can’t help it. I wish some US company made a 55”-56” long wider bag.

Design brief: fit my 9” suppressors and skinnier bipods attached to rifles but still fit sideways in my rig, with a decent amount of onboard storage. Light as possible.

With the $ that I’ve put into bags, I could’ve probably just commissioned a custom US-made bag 😂

The Creedmoor Deluxe 55”, even though it is Asian-made, does have a big YKK zipper so we’ll see how that one turns out. Can’t remember what zipper my (also Asian) AIM 55 has, but it’s beefy.

Both the above have some features that attempt to counteract zipper blow out, whereas the Bulldog had few-to-none.

I bought a Vudoo Tactical drag bag at a show 6 years ago and have used it for every rifle match and range trip since. I can fit 2 match rifles plus gear in it. Have extra pockets for bipod, silencer, cleaning kit, and tool storage. No rips in the fabric, no failed seems or zippers.

Has anybody used any of the AIM Field Sports bags out of the UK?

I think Mile High has been selling them for a while.

I have some agencies that use FS-42 soft cases for everyday transport and deployment but also have similar sized Storm or SKB hard cases without foam inserts. Whenever they need to fly or ship the gun or guns, they drop the entire softcase package into the hardcase shell and send it on the way.

I know they make some larger/full size soft cases but have no feedback on how they hold up and perform.

I have an AIM 55. I’m not super hard on stuff, but hard enough to wreck a couple imported rifle cases lol

The AIM case has held up fine. It is not made of Cordura, but of some similar sort of fabric that isn’t quite as nice…it’s stiffer.

The zips aren’t YKK, but are beefy. On the 55, at least, the backpack straps aren’t attached low enough on the main bag body. This means the tail end tends to hit me on the backs of the legs when walking (I’m 5’ 10”).

It has no typical single shoulder strap. I use one of the backpack straps and tuck the other away.

It can (barely) fit a AIAT with a 25.5” barrel and a 9” suppressor. No extensions on the buttpad.

It’s a good case. But, personally, if the LEO team can afford it, go USA. I just wanted a 55”-56” case (no longer) and couldn’t source a USA one.

Cannot find a good downsized case in the 38 to 42'ish size for the folded bolt guns.
There are a few flat style soft cases but they are mostly built to carry like a suitcase/briefcase. I would love to find something US made that is similar to the AIM but has places to stow mags, LRF, etc and has usable straps for carry.

Anybody with better search-fu than me is welcome to post a link.

I'm not beyond entertaining the idea of having 20 or so built if any established companies would do a custom short run.

I’ve never found one.

The main thing that stopped me from buying the AIM folders is I like my scopes as far back as possible for an upright head position (I never shoot prone).

For the scopes I use (S&B 5-25 & razor G2) this places the eyepiece past the folded rifle body. Meaning, when folded, most all of the weight of the gun would rest on the scope.

It would be cool for a manufacturer to address that issue with some stiff padding that bypassed the scope but supported the folded rifle’s end. I suspect I am in the minority with this problem?

Of course you could always stop being a poor and buy one of the TacOps drag bags.
They are very pricey but they last forever.
Great. You’ve made me add up my spend.

I’ve got at least $2.5k just in soft cases man (edit: mostly all AG). Fuck, I could’ve bought a damn cheap thermal scanner for that lol. I’m a dumbass.

For me, Tacops are either too short or too long, at least the last time I checked. It’s gotta fit crosswise in my 4Runner, and 56” is about the max. ~55”-56” cases fit my AIAT with a 9” can attached.

I know that’s irritatingly specific.

I’m sure the Tacops is awesome though.

That's what happens when you buy a quality made Bag, Made by Americans (RTLW), with American materials.

Or you can buy some shitty Chinese bag from a European vendor that cost $5 to make and $50 to ship across the globe.

Its incredibly foolish to save a few dollars for something that will come apart under hard use when for a little more you can buy something that will last a lifetime. In the rare chance you do have an issue, they will take care of it for free. Armageddon gear, Kifaru, SG, Triad Bag, ect.

Drag bags are retarded but if you are going to buy one and actually use it, the TacOps is an easy choice.

These might be a little long but Eagle used to make these for Pelican for their storm 3300 cases. Really well made and has shoulder straps built in to use a backpack or carry like a reg case.

Honestly I would call tom at AG and see if he would. I have talked to him about doing runs before and he seems very open. Something like the MRAD case might be perfect if it could be made smaller/shorter.

I've got a whole bunch of cases:

-Voodoo drag bag (garbage)
-Saviour Discrete case (decent so far, minimal use)
-AG Precision rifle case 52"
-AG M2010 case
-Triad Tactical 42" Precision Rifle Carry case
-Elite Survival Systems 33" Discrete Rifle case

The Voodoo is garbage, started falling apart pretty quick, wouldn't recommend

The Saviour has been ok but it's seen pretty minimal use

The AG Precision Rifle case has pretty much lived in my truck since 2019 or so. It's very well built and fits a 26" barrelled rifle in an ACC Elite with double-pull and Gen 3 Razor. I did wear a hole in the bottom front where the bipod (spike) feet are.

The AG M2010 has been great, super well built, fits my big Norma (29.5" barrel, folding stock) and has held up very well.

The Triad Precision Rifle Carry case is really well built and has lived in my truck since about 2016 and other than some of the zippers no longer playing nice, it's held up great

The Elite Survival Systems 33" Discrete case is really well built and has held up great, has been mostly living in my truck for 2+ years and has had zero issues.

The long and the short of this is if you want something quality that will hold up to daily use/abuse for years, getting something US made like AG, Triad or Elite, my $0.02
