I find the convenience of the 3 lug to be worth every penny. Every firearm my company owns that can use a 3 lug does.
Heads up, some mount don't work properly. I think it was actually a rather high end clone of an MP5 that was reviewed and one of the main issues they had with it was the lugs were just barely out of tolerance. Another high end clone tested had the same problem. Apparently the tolerance is pretty tight?
I think what they ended up doing was cutting and threading the barrel and installing a Sico 3 lug.
Just beware some of the built in 3 lug mounts may not be in tolerance, rendering them useless. I think they figured it had something to do with the fact the weapon was made overseas in a country where suppressors were illegal, period, were exported all over including other countries where suppressors are illegal and they had no way or no incentive to get it right. The lugs were more for show than anything else.
Just beware not all 3 lug mounts are created the same. But the ones that Sico and others make that thread on generally are good to go from what I read, as are true HK lugs. As for others, well, it would behoove you to do your research.

I have sub caliber guns with both. I too prefer the ease and speed of 3-lug. I've have seen friends with both out of spec 3-lug adapters and suppressor mounts. It happens and both instances where taken care of very quickly.
I prefer a 3-lug mount. Especially if going to use on multiple firearms setup with 3 lugs. If using with other similarly threaded barrels on pistols I would go direct thread. For me it's convenience and compatibility, I also shoot it in competition matches and sometimes I am not able to run suppressed so I have a faux can that is also 3-lug.
Yeh, that is a tough one. Since I run my Osprey on my HK FS USP, Compact USP and my USC/UMP SBR I run direct thread. Not as fast as 3 lug but has worked well for me on my .45’s all threaded the same M16x1 LH
If you are going to be constantly taking the can on and off and think 15 sec of spin time is a lot then go for it. Otherwise direct thread is the way to go. High Speed Ninja Quick Change might look cool but it's not worth the hassle to jump through the hoops for. I was there and spent the money on TROS products and 3 lug adapters to do it
There is an advantage to the 3-lug as it cannot unthread during shooting. Running one on an sbr with a hand guard that covers the suppressor allows me not to worry about having to tighten it.
Better make sure the 3 lug is in spec and adapter on your can isn't worn down and the spring is weak. If man made it, it can fail. The odds are in your favor with a 3 lug set up but it isn't 100% either
