Has anyone compared these two powders for accuracy for the .223 Rem. If so, what size weight range/style in bullets did each powder perform it's best? I realize it will vary with each gun but just looking for ball park figures in general. Thanks!
Re: Hodgdon Varget vs. H322 for best accuracy in .223
I have some Varget I've been using on my 55 grain V-max I think I'll get some H322 to try with the 55grn. and some 69 grain Sierra MatchKing bullets to try with my Varget. Thanks!
Re: Hodgdon Varget vs. H322 for best accuracy in .223
I have and have used both. Saw no difference in accuracy. Accuracy of both is within my own shooting skill (1 MOA at 100 yds). I normally use 322 and have loaded and shot thousands with it.
Re: Hodgdon Varget vs. H322 for best accuracy in .223
I use 23.9 grains Ramshot TAC with the 77 grain SMK. This is a gus gun load. Ordered 5000 of them this AM. This load is excellent to 600 yards. Have not shot it farther than that, likely will not, as that is my max range for the .223.
Re: Hodgdon Varget vs. H322 for best accuracy in .223
I need to load up some 69 SMKs and some Hornady 75gr BTHP Match loads by tomorrow. Gonna go with TAC in half the loads, and not sure, maybe Benchmark for the rest. Runnin' low on 322 and 335....
Re: Hodgdon Varget vs. H322 for best accuracy in .223
I've used 322/335 a lil, use a lot of varget, but as of late Ive gone almost completely to H4895 for 223. From 50's to 75's it does well with all for me.
Re: Hodgdon Varget vs. H322 for best accuracy in .223
A lot will have to do with your twist rate more than those two powders. The 55 gr Vmax will be fine at 100 yards with the 1:9 twist but past that the groups will open up; the 69 gr SMK will work better at longer range past 300y.
Varget works great at being temperature insensitive, but I dunno about H322. Maybe somebody else can comment on that part?
