I am sorry guys but my google-fu is weak tonight.

I am trying to figure out holds for a 25 yard zero with my 16" in 5.56, 55 grain FMJBT. I could figure it out by burning up ammo like it's free, but I don't want to to that. I just need somewhere to start so I can figure out my actual holds (50, 100, 200, 300...). Any info would be tits.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Holds for 25 Yard Zero?

Here is some dope and associated data that I have for XM193, this is part of a hand out that I made up for a carbine class that I helped out with:

55 gr FMJ with a BC of .233 and a MV of 3075 fps.
DA of 2,000' and a height over bore of 2.5"

Re: Holds for 25 Yard Zero?

Not a fan of 25 yard 0. 50 yard or 100 yard offer many advantages IMO.

50 yard your hold overs and unders are not nearly as large especially 150 and in (the distance that most shots are taken and if for defensive/military/LE purpose will need to be done the fastest).
100 yard zero really doesn't force any hold under except at extremely close range. Basically you just have to learn your hold overs which in my mind are easier than worrying about over @ x distance and under @ y distance. At longer ranges you will have a slot more hold over but you should also have time to figure that out.

ETA - OP you should verify by shooting if at all possible whatever 0 you choose. It is far from wasting ammunition.

I plan on shooting and learning my holds. I just wanted a base to start from rather than throwing rounds downrange after a guess.

Coming in a little late, but at a school I was at a few years back this is what some of the AMU guys had for green tip from a M4 with a 25m Z.

Haha, well that was supposed to be a secret but now everyone knows.

Re: Holds for 25 Yard Zero?

I have found that if you do zero at 25 yards your shots at 200 are way off. I started zeroing at 25 yards but 2 inches low. Problem solved all the way out to 400.
