Range Report Hornady 150 GMX?

I'm about to build Reloading Station II, and the first order of business is to load some Hornady 150 GMX for my Scout Rifle. Anyone have data on this bullet for a 16" barreled 308?

Assuming you are using them for hunting, you're not going to get great expansion with that short of a barrel at distance. The GMX need at least 1900-2000 fps to open up. I run mine through a 20" barrel at 2695 fps and they are at 1929 fps at 400 yd.

I'm just getting into reloading the 110gr GMX with IMR-4198 in my 7.62x39 Savage 10FCM Scout. The 110gr V-Max are knock-em dead accurate.

Tried the same load with the 110 GMX, but not accurate.

Next step; try some actual load development.

My hunting buddy used one in a 30-06 to kill a cow elk last October. 260 yd shot, double lung hit. Excellent performance. I shot my elk with a 338 cal 210 Barnes at 30 yds(2550 fps). Same double lung shot. Absolutely identical damage between the two. Last week I killed a 250 lb black bear with a 338/185 gmx, also about 30 yds, 2700 fps impact, and double lung. Exact same damage as the elk. Since you’re shooting a short barreled gun, I’d be mindful of the lower velocities at the target, but it should work fine. Treat it like any other 150 as far as the load goes, and you shouldn’t have any surprises. You can and probably should jump the shit out of the bullet. All the mono metal bullets I’ve tried have liked that.

It should be running close to 2550 at 10' and around 2250 at 100m. As this is a scout rifle, built to kill anything on four legs or two, or even take out 'other metal things'. I've done my best to essentially build the consummate bolt action, kill or incapacitate hunting/battle rifle
