It's a good question. I use both. I like the VLD's for target/match shooting, and to take a deer or two when I have that rifle with me. But I load the SST for all my dedicated hunting rifles. The SST works very well on deer size game. Plus, the SST is easier to get to shoot better and less expensive. So, I'd lean to the SST for hunting.

For 300-500 yards, either will do great. If you are hunting/shooting 600+, I'd lean towards the VLD for the high BC. I like the performance on game of the SST. But, the VLD will open them up good, too.

Don't forget about the 162gr amax. They're cheap, accurate, have a decent bc.
