tired some today in my GAP/DPMS 308. out of four rounds 2 blew the primers right out! my GAP no likey, anybody else experience the same?

IMO this is a clear sign of ammunition that is overpressure in your rifle, even moreso than the guy in the other thread.

Ya my POF did not like this ammunition either. I didn’t have any blown primers, but my rounds were all over the place.

We have tested this ammo in quite a few rifles now. The trend seems to be that the bolt guns shoot it well, with increased velocities and few (if any) pressure signs. The semis, however, seem not to like it too much. We have not seen the blown primers so much as just a lot of stringing with poor groups. It has been the same with several brands of gas guns: piston, direct imping, can, no can.
The bolt guns love it, though.

hmm, I was thinking of taking a 200 round case with me to a Precision rifle class. Now I am rethinking that strategy. I would hate to be up there and have an issue with my ammo and miss out on a class.

Had a shooter bring the 178 super ammo to a 600 yard match. It was crap with lots of elevation problems. He shot an aweful 161/200 first string and didn't even bother finishing the match with this ammo. I am a huge Hornady fan and love their A-max and Interbond bullets in several calibers, but I think this super-match stuff is more marketing than performance.

Let's face it - "there's no free lunch" - the ammo is loaded hot and it basicly says so on the box (i.e. if you think you are going to pick up 150+ fps with some magical ammo and not likely have some negative issues you are dreaming). In most cases hot loads shoot poorly. In a semi auto a pierced primer many times has more to do with the thin or soft primer cup as opposed to anything else. With the AR's we build up we only recommend the use of certain primers that we know don't pierce.
Probably if you have a bolt gun with a Remington 700 factory type chamber (i.e. a super long free bore where the bullet hits the lands way way out there) this ammo might work o.k, but it may not, even in that application.

I called hornady about the supermatch blowing primers in my bolt gun. They asked me to send the cases back to them and the unfired ammo I had left for examination. They payed for UPS shipping and I am waiting to hear back from them. They were absolutly stand up about wanting to be sure I was taken care of, and wanting to know what happened with the ammo.

This happened to me too, plus it was putting a hole in the primer, not actually blowing it.
