I'm gonna try loading 178 BTHP's in some new Hornady Match brass. I've been using Lapua. Wanna start using some Hornady now, see how it compares. I have IMR4064 and 8208XBR to play with. Would the 4064 push the 178 better than the 8208? I thought somebody somewhere told me the 8208 was better with lighter bullets. 168 or 155? Thanks for any help. That's why I love this forum.

It's looking like Hornady brass is being made by whoever is making Remington brass (for the 308 anyway)... and it's close to Lapua, so you probably won't see a lot of difference in velocity or powder charge. 4064 would be best, looking for a node around 41.7 grains (+/- .3)

I guess I didn't have any Remington brass to check at the time, but Lapua versus Hornady on the lower two lines.

Also if it doesn't have a crimped primer then it's of the older stock and weight/capacity is on par with with winchester. ..

I have several hundred rounds of the Hornady brass. It's good to go. I've got it in 308 and 300 Win Mag.

I am curious to here your results. I was using lapua switched to Hornady once fired factory brass to use it up. I had a few that had primer pockets so loose the primer would just fall out after 1 reload. I also have a 6.5CM and had the same issues with Hornady brass as I did with 308, not impressed. I am now going through my Silver State Armory once fired 308 brass I have collected.

I just did some testing with Fed brass and the 178's, used IMR4064 and 2000MR. My 175 SMK/IMR4064 was 43 at 2.8 and the best I could tell 43 of IMR4064/178 but at 2.840 works the best, 42.7 impacted pretty much the same. Wheels seemed to come off at 43.3
I did a work up on the 185 Berger OTM/2000MR at 47 and works as well with the 178. 47.2 opened up a tad

Velocity was at/about 2660 for the IMR4064 and 2770 with 2000MR. 22" barrel

Hope that helps
