Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

If they are as quick in shipping these as they are in shipping their bullets if we order one now it will be a year before it arrives... I will stick with RCBS on this one!

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

They also have a US unit (cheap one, just molded in red) and 6.5 Grendel brass. Hornady's stuff isn't always the best, but I like that they are coming out with a lot of new stuff lately.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

Well, guess RCBS "exclusive" contract with PACT has expired. With the very lucrative profit margin those things are getting it was only a matter of time before Hornady got some red ones made.

I like red. Might have just figured out what my wife is getting for Christmas!

The RCBS Chargemaster isn't made by PACT, it was the previous, slower unit.

The Hornady unit looks exactly like my RCBS Chargemaster.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

So, PACT made an improved model. ??

And Hornady's decreased price is a strong suggestion of how over priced the Chargemaster is. (Understanding that Hormady is also making a profit!)

Then, you must have a different Chargemaster than the rest of us...

Note the location of the controls on each:

It's a different machine.

You still blaming Hornady for that??

You are probably right, though.

Really? I type in the weight I want and hit dispense. How hard is that?

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

I talked with our guy at Hornady and asked about the new powder measure.

He said it will dispense in the 3 different speeds to make loading efficient for different cartridge types. The different speeds will help when loading smaller loads like pistol rounds and the faster speeds for larger rounds like .338.

There is a dedicated button for all features so that way you don't have to use the same button twice.

He also said that it was really easy to setup and save loads as well.

I asked about the delivery time on these units and he says that it seems Midway is even being a bit generous on those delivery time.

As for why you wait on some bullet orders the reason for that is that the demand is so high for the more popular types of bullets and those machines are running non-stop to keep up. Some of the not so popular rounds tend not to get ran until a machine goes down and needs repair or cleaning. When that happens they sometimes switch out the dies and make another caliber.

They basically loose a full day of a machine when they switch out calibers so once the machines are running and making ammo they don't like to just stop them to switch out.

I have been there and watched the process and it is a huge operation and well ran. The demand for ammo is through the roof.

Also our guy gave me some hints on some new things that will be coming out in the future which I cant discuss but they are coming out with some really cool products that will once again be a big benefit to us shooters.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

Looks like the Hornady unit combined the dispenser and scale into a single unit, unlike the Chargemaster. Wondering when it will actually start to ship, so someone can get their hands on it.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

I'm interested in an alternative to the RCBS. Mine's worked ok when it works, but I've had 2 break on me and my current one varies and loses its zero....

I don't think I can live without it, but I'm not completely impressed with it.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

Sorry to revive an old thread. I was going to pick up the Hornady Auto Charge but Midway kept changing their expected in date. Recently from February 8th to March 29th. I emailed Hornady on a realistic date and here is their response:

This is a new product for 2010. Our scheduled date to have it at the market is April of this year.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for anyone else that was going to try and pick one up.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

Don't give Midway in-stock dates any notice. My bullets were "expected to be in stock" last April...then May...then August....then December....still no bullets.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

I have to give Hornady credit this time on the bullets. The last time I sent off for the get loaded promotion it took a while to get the bullets I wanted. This time it took about 5 weeks to get the same bullets. I was realy surprised. Gary

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

No, not out yet. The April date was given to me by Hornady customer service. Midway lists 3/29...I have never actually received anything by the dates that Midway states on their site...even on a couple of items listed as in stock.

I was hoping to run one against a reprogrammed chargemaster to see how it performed in both speed and accuracy.

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

I've heard the smart reloaders are from switzerland. I'd like to hear more about them. Not to keen on having to send something ALL the way to switzerland to get fixed, but the swiss do make GOOD stuff. any word on these?

Re: Hornady has a Chargemaster now!

Well, i know this is a old thread but i just ordered one of these. Seems like majority of the reviews on them is positive and i found them on sale for $200 shipped. Anyone else have any experience with them?
