I finally got my Hornady set up so I decided to start loading some 300blk. I am having such issues with the primer systems that it is driving me nuts. Each time I raise the ram the primer slide moves back but consistently it would not come forward when I lower the ram. Sometimes it would slide forward without the primer. Sometimes there would be a primer. I tried to polish all the contact surfaces but that does not seem to help. without the primer tube the slide goes back and forth as expected. Anyone having this problem? How did you solve this issue?

yep having the same problem here also.I havent solved the problem yet and it's pissing me off. I'v polished it also and works every time empty but when i put primers in it fucks up every 4 or 5 cycles.

Re: Hornady Lock n Load primer system problem

Numerous threads all over the internet regarding the LNL A&P and it's primer feeding problems, particularly with small primers and calibers with narrow bases check Glocktalk, Brian Enos, Cast boolits.

I am using Wolf SRM primers.

Re: Hornady Lock n Load primer system problem

I had the same problem, and what finally fixed it for me was my case chamfer tool. I put a slight chamfer on the primer hole of the slide and it fixed the issue. Before that, I had also done all the things you guy have mentioned. Good luck!!!

Re: Hornady Lock n Load primer system problem

you need to adjust the "timing"... loosen the screw at the top of the shuttle "bent shuttle guide" bar. Take the primer drop tubes complete off so you can look down to where the shuttle picks up the primer with a flashlight... YOU need to adjust the timing so the whole in the shuttle just goes past center where it picks up the primer from the drop tube.

thing about the hornady LNL AP press is you need to keep the shellplate area totally clean especially before you seat primers.

Re: Hornady Lock n Load primer system problem

I think I have fixed my priming system. I have beveled the bottom of the base where the primer tube mount on in addition to the slide bar. Also, make sure the primer tube sits tight and square on the base. My primer system works great now. Fingers crossed.

Re: Hornady Lock n Load primer system problem

i beveled the top of the primer slide and it looks like it did the trick ran 30 rounds and not one screw up thanks for the tip flintlock.

Re: Hornady Lock n Load primer system problem

Glad to have helped! I was really at the end of my rope when I figured it out!!!! I have now loaded hundreds of rounds and have not had the problem since.
