Have any of you guys come up with a solution to make a Hornady Modified 308 case (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/459683/...-308-winchester)

I purchased the Hornady Lock N Load OLG (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/570611/...vc=S015ID459683),

but Midway was out of stock on the Modified case, and I didnt want to order from else where and pay $10+ for S/H on a $5 item.
What is the thread size on the Shell so the the Hornady Lock N Load OLG will screw into it? Also, would I need a virgin piece of brass, or one that has been fired and NOT resized or one that has been fired AND resized?

Thanks!

Re: Hornady Modified 308 case

I have been making my own; I bought a tap (5/16-36) from a custom tooling shop (i need to look it up). The trick is to use a lathe to ensure that you are everything dead-nuts center and not canted at all. I tried using a drill press and failed over and over again.

A shot case. Than you have to use a universal decapping rod (case length trimming guild would probably work- never tired it but seems it'll do the job) to pop out the spent primer.

locking the rod in place will keep the bullet in its proper depth so little resistance or no resistance is fine. Like the previous poster said a shot case works fine.

Re: Hornady Modified 308 case

The Hornady modified cases are crap. The one for my 300 WSM almost drove me to drinking. Order the 5/16-36 bottom tap and had a machinist drill and tap my fired case, ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. If you only have one case to do, send it to Hornady. If you have multiply cases, buy the tap. Also my Hornady 30-06 Spg modified cases is going in the trash.
