Range Report Hornady Superformance Ammo

Re: Hornady Superformance Ammo

Works good for some. Not so good for others. Like any ammo. My team mates rifle shoots it under 1/2 MOA but mine doesn't. Velocity is in the 2830fps area with a 178 BTHP which is pretty fast.

Here's a thread I started back in 2010.

Long and short is some people were having primers blow. Hornady staked the primers. Also the ammo isn't the best for semi autos. Buy one box and try it is the best advice. If your rifle really likes it then get more.

Superformance Ammo is pretty good since the powder is custom tailored for the specific cartridge/bullet you are buying.

Don't confuse Superformance powder off the shelf from Hodgen with what is purchased with Superformance Ammunition. It's different!!!

Superformance powder will give you decent speed (a little faster than others that favor a moderately slow burning rate powder like H4831). The burning rate is similar to H4831 but it meters 10x better since it's a ball powder. It's worth purchasing a pound and trying it out.

If you don't see load data published in the Hodgen reloading manual it's because the speed performance requirements were not met through Hodgen's testing. It required 75fps+ beyond the other published powders listed for a particular cartridge for publication; which was a requirement from Hornady for marketing purposes. However, give Hodgen a call and ask them for some load data.

A friend of mine uses it in his 243 with 115 DTAC's and loves it. Other friends of mine, including myself, have found the velocity they wanted, very consistent through the crono, but other powders gave a little better accuracy node.

Rob01, correct me if I'm saying something that is different than what you've experienced. Or delete my post if I'm saying something that I shouldn't be discussing.

Re: Hornady Superformance Ammo

Nope you're pretty much spot on Francis. The Superformance loads from Hornady are blended and not the same as the powder from Hodgdon so you can't just dump out a case, weigh it and use the off the shelf powder and expect the same performance.
