Shooting a 22-250, 24” barrel with a 1:14 twist using Varget and 50 grain Hornady V-max, I found my 100 yard accuracy kept improving until I got around 3,400 fps, then mostly leveled off above that. I just bought a Colt AR-15 (CR6724) with a 24 inch barrel with a 1:10 twist. Looking at reload data, the 50 gain V-max only flies around 3,200 fps when pushing it and using a heavy bullet only slows the V-max down. My question is will my accuracy suffer with the AR-15 because of how slowly the V-max flies? Using a 40 grain bullet will kick the fps up to around 3,400, but with the twist rate of 1:10 tells me that it might not work very well. Comments and suggestions please………….

The only way to know is to try them, there is no hit X velocity for the most accuracy rule. 40gr should be fine out of a 1:10, 35s and 40gr lead free not v-maxs do fine out of a 1:9, 60gr V-maxs have done best for me of all the bullets I've tried, I suspect the lighter variants would likely be just as well, just haven't tried them.

I guess I have a few starting points as I have several thousand 40 and 50 grain V-max. I find the 60 grain V-max intertest too as it's not a boat tail. Thanks for the reply
