I'd like to see Hornady make the 130 BTHP or 130 Amax and ditch the 120 Amax entirely, especially with the 123 being available.
On topic: I've shot 1 box of them that I was given "to try"
At 100yd I didn't see any difference in load data or group size to the Amax's, at 600yd they were a few inches lower on the target. Group sizes were consistently showing more vertical stringing than the Amax was (3" vs. 1.5")
The ES of the test over my chrono was only 3fps more than the 10rd of Amax's which indicates to me that there is a bigger distribution of the BC, my suspicion is due to the meplat size/shape.
I did really like that they pointed the bullets right from the factory, and at $23/box it's hard to go wrong with a 1/2 MOA bullet at 600yd.
Right now I have 1900 Amax's still on my shelf, so I'm going to continue with them for the rest of this barrel.
I'd like to see Hornady make the 130 BTHP or 130 Amax and ditch the 120 Amax entirely, especially with the 123 being available.

I have shot exactly 150 AMAX 140s through my new Savage Model 12 LRP in 260.
Right off the bat, with the first load (that I guessed at) the rifle was shooting 1/2 MOA at 200 yards. By the end of the chrono session, I was shooting five inch groups at 500 meters.
That's pretty damned good for a new rifle, scope, and load situation. Definitely much better than any experience I've ever had with a .308 rifle.
I started with 4350 and felt it was too fast for the 140. Second load I tried was with VV 160. It was better and shows good potential. Third batch I worked up was with H 4381 sc. It looks like the slower powder has the best potential for development, but I haven't given up on the VV just yet.
Got a box of the HPBTs to mess with on the next cycle.
I really got stuck on Amax bullets in the .308 because I don't seem to get the flyers that were always a part of Scenars and Match Kings. So, the 140 Amax was a comfortable first choice to try in the .260.
With 1/2 moa groups as the first experience, I'll probably stick with them for the near future.

Haven't shot the BTHP or AMAX in the .260 but have shot thousands of the AMAX through my 6.5 Creedmoor and they are excellent bullets. Good BC, very accurate and I get 2800+fps pretty easy with H4350.

I know someone who uses the 123amax through a DPMS 260 upper. Shoot very well chrono is 2650 for 20" barrel mag fed.

I still can't figure why guys shoot 120-130 instead of 140s.
The 140s in my 260 go at 2940-60 & I have shot it out to 1280 yards.
A mate was shooting a 6.5x47 with 123s & couldn't get that far, 1000 no problems but 1280 was just too far for the conditions.
My 260 will shoot the 139,144 Lapuas, 140 SST & Amax same poi at 100 into nice little groups.
I use 308 Lapua brass necked down & turned, 215 primer & H1000, very compressed load but it works very well
Kimber LPT, Trueflite 1-8 26" barrel & suppressor.

Well Greg I for one would like my barrel to last as long as possible, I push the 140ish pills around 2800, with the same pressure I could push a 130 200 fps faster, that will more than make up the for the reduced BC if any, and should give reduced wind holds.

My 26" 8 twist Criterion seems to prefer the 130 Berger VLD with 43.5gr RL-17 @ 2.94" OAL (0.010" off lands), which provides 3000fps and excellent accuracy.
Even better than that is the 130gr Norma Golden. It has a Litz G1 of 0.575 and in my barrel runs the same speed as the 130 Berger at a given charge. Haven't done enough load development with it yet to find the sweet spot, but it looks very promising.
Oh yeah, the 123 A-Max and 140 A-Max both shoot great in my barrel too. I get 2930fps with 39.3gr Varget or 3000fps with 48.0gr H4831SC and the 123s, and with 140s I'm getting about 2815fps with 42.8gr H4350.

I have shot both with decent results. The Match liked IMR 4831 and the Amax Varget. Wow...you guys are finding them under $30 a box are getting great deals. I need 1000 of the 140 AMAX. If anyone knows where I can get some please pm me...I would appreciate it!
