Also - b/c POTUS knows he is CLEO, he encouraged all to fully co-operate. To that end he turned over his private notes from his daily meeting with his own team of attorneys (that ran a parallel investigation in to the same matters). Mueller knew he had nothing in December of 2017, at the same time he had contravening evidence.

While the GJ testimony is a red herring, Trump's notes and Executive Privilege may become an issue - particularly if only selected portions are strung together to mislead.
