Actually the US military tested jet packs as an supplement to helicopters as far back as the 60's and managed to get 15-20 minutes of flight time with various technology. Of course without links I am making this up so I will see if I can dig that up. Personal flight has always been a fantasy of mine.

In the vids, the users are propelling the board by "pumping" their foot against the air....
