This is the first and only episode of 60 Minutes i have ever watched. The Marcus segment is the second and third segments in the episode. Just damn, left me speechless.

Good interview. Read the book in 3 or so days while in Hawaii on vacation. Hope the movie stays true to the book and does it justice.
I read the book and enjoyed the interview.If I recall correctly there was somewhere around 80 enemy engaged with this SEAL team. It seems as if he's had a difficult time getting back to civilian life. It was good to see he got married, had kids and a supporting family around him. I was a bit surprised to see the Afghan villager in Texas.

I wish more Americans could grasp the concept of Honor like that Afghan. What Marcus Latrell went through is uncomprehesible to me, he is one tough bastard!
Wow. Talk about a tough SOB. And he went back overseas again after he`d healed a bit. I bet the movies gone be awesome considering Mr Luttrell said hed kill Peter Berg and the actors if they didnt get it right lol. Think this calls for a big FU to the taliban/al qaeda. Right after Red Wings, the Marines went in and wiped out Shah`s cell and sent Shah packing. Apparently Pak police took care of Shah a while after that. You never know with the Paks though, I dont know why our military/gov`t goes to such great lengths to be friendly with them. They are not to be trusted.

Let me tell you brother, don't believe the hype we call the "news". Thayts all ah have to say bout thadt.
The trouble with the Pakistanis is that there are multiple competing interests in government. Some in the gov are Taliban supporters, some are USA supporters, and multiple others have personal agendas, chiefly greed, corruption, and lust for power. There are multiple kidnappings and but they turn the killing off during election time. You can trust most of the Pakistani government, trust them to be Taliban supporters, trust them to be corrupt, etc.
I have not been there, have one friend who lived there for many years. Mostly I study the news and other sources, and do my best to read between the lines. If you have information to add, I am totally open to other's opinions.
Actually thats more right than wrong. Violence isn't turned off during elections.
Three percent of the population pays taxes(studies range from .5%-3%). The military stokes anti- India hatred to preserve its position in the country. Pakistan is like a crack addicted relative who steals, lies,commits every crime to feed its addictions. A relative that you can't get rid of.
To think that young men and women from India, USA, NATO have to die and make enormous sacrifices to fight the addictions of Pakistan that spill over into all the surrounding countries is abhorrent.
But its a reality for the future.
That's only a good Asiatimes story if you like stories of this persuasion. I can show you stories about death camps going up in America. Doesn't make them true. Yes there is a lot wrong with Pakistan. But they are not THAT bad. It is however, troubling times over here and it gets creepier every day. And at the end of the day, you all are entitled to think on your own and however you want to, is freely your choice. If you take anything away from this, I would hope that you all don't take everything you hear as truth. I'm not trying to be a jerk or a douche that knows something you all don't. I just want to humbly say Pakistani people are not unlike us. They have different problems for sure, but they are a basically good people (no I do not think everyone is basically good, either). All it takes is a few to spoil the whole image of an entire nation.
Forgive me if there is any indignation in my last post, I just wish we all could see the intents and strides of their people in the right direction.

I met a lot of great Afghans, more Afghans in the 6 months that I was there than Iraqis in the 12 months I was in Baghdad. I met an Afghan, head of personal Security (something like that) who is probably a sociopath, friendly enough guy, always had a smile on his face and was pleasant to be around, but has killed probably hundreds of Taliban personally, rumor has it is he (don't know when or where) skinned a Taliban alive in the center of the town that the Taliban guy way found (possible/ likely his home town) However, given that, I'd still invite the man to my home and serve him dinner gladly, more so than most of the Iraqis that I met and dealt with.
Let's not get carried away. The Pashtuns in the south are some of the most horrific people on the planet. Backwards savages that bring a special kind of gravity to the word hypocrisy. So let's be careful throwing around that Afghan sense of 'Honor'
