Has anyone here ever bought a 20' shipping container for storage in the back yard? They seem more secure than a shed. I'm looking to store extra tools that I really don't use that often and are taking up space in the garage. I see them on markerplace but they all seem scammy.
If they actually are selling them where are they getting them from?

I called a local company that advertised online. Went down ,looked at a few containers. I chose a 40' one trip ,one set of doors, and 9 foot height.

The real issue isn't buying one it's getting it delivered. They can be heavy and the driver will need lots of room of they are using a roll off or tip trailer.

Also I painted mine to match the garage. Took 6 gallons of paint.

Here in OR. temp. changes and humidity. From what I seen. Sitting and closed up for longtime, Only negative that needs to be addressed is condensation inside from lack of moving air ventilation. just needs some vents modified into it.
.

Used to see tons of listings on the marketplaces of the booko'faces, but all the ads were from brokers, professional middle men, never the people really selling them. That doesn't help me. I need someone to come to the site first and say "yep we can do it" or "nope, there's no way we could get it up there".

Theres not a lock made this can't defeat......just saying!

The people on marketplace are just bird dogging for distributors/brokers. There’s a trailer place in Pottstown PA , TP trailers. I doubt they’ll deliver to N Jersey though.
I got a couple of one trip containers, had them paint them, and they look great. Pretty secure. If you go at mine with a grinder, I’ll hear it and you’ll receive a bullet. That being said, the locks are shielded by 1/4” plate. Only the lock cylinder is exposed at the bottom.

I bought these

to maneuver them into place but, mine arrived on a flat bed tow truck and the driver was a wizard. He dropped them within inches of where they needed to be. Final placement was handled with a track loader and forks.

My main suggestion would be buy a 40’ or two 20’s. I wish I had more space.

I also had a guy frame a single pitch roof over them. 30’ in between for parking, semi-dry storage. The whole project was like 17k or close to that, not much more than a big Amish shed.
