I have a Rem 700 .308 with a XLR Evolution chassis. I have about 1/4" clearance between the stock and the scope objective lense. Is this enough clearance?

Looks great, it really counts on what is comfortable for you!!!!! Get behind it,look through the scope and see how it feels.feels good go with it if not use lower or higher rings. What works for me, may not work for you.The main thing is do not let barrel or chassis touch the scope objective.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I am concerned because I think the objective is hitting the barrel shroud when the gun fires. There is a little scuffing on the shroud right underneath where the objective would touch it.

Should not have that much play, enough to move 1/4 but considering your rings are that high, anything is possible.

I had an xlr and know the finish was very easy to scuff and or scratch, may have happened before while setting up and you just noticed it.

I would put a piece of masking tape on the shroud and something on the objective (a little magic marker or pencil graphite) something that will transfer onto the masking tape to verify. Maybe your shroud is loose.

The advantage to having the scope really low is that the cheek weld is much better, allowing for less neck strain during a range session. I don't know if a 308 has enough recoil to warp the scope downward during firing. I have seen slo mo videos of a 50 cal and you can actually see the rail bend, but that is with a 50.
