Yes, indeed. Fossil fuel was not imported from another low-wage planet by evil capitalists.
It originated from the atmosphere's CO2 during the Carboniferous period that we estimate to have lasted from 359 - 298 million years ago (MYA) based on carbon dating of fossils found.
Roughly 182 million years before that (541 MYA) the Cambrian explosion occurred where "DNA got its act together" and life took off from simple single-cell stuff to the complex organisms of our ancestors. There was an explosion in complexity, diversity, and volume of life on this planet - while the carbon of the future fossil fuel was still in the atmosphere as CO2.
Can someone other than a teenage sock puppet please explain to me - in scientific terms - how releasing a fraction of that carbon(dioxide) back into the atmosphere will force life to call it quits on this planet.

Ozone depletion from CFCs is a different beast. There is no natural process like photosynthesis that can sequester these chemicals. Chlorinated Fluorocarbons never existed before we cooked them up in a lab. Stuff like this CAN wipe us out if used carelessly. Ionizing radiation, like UV not filtered out by Ozone, is a long-term bitch for life. Organisms can adapt to all sorts of environmental changes but once the DNA is attacked, you are in a different pickle.
