I shot in the rain ALL day yesterday. The only thing more annoying than looking through water droplets on the lens, and the distraction caused by them running down the lens while shooting, was getting a face full of water everytime the gun went off. Due to the water to the face every round, I was unable to see my misses, to help with corrections.

What tricks do you have to help out in these conditions??

If the water is falling on it there's nothing you can really do. If you want to keep water off the scope you could use several things. Umbrella, easy up or other open tent, pickup with a bed cover, suv or van, poncho or tarp tied to trees or some other support. Ive used all those to keep dry on rainy days.

<span style="font-style: italic">"Ding! Ding! Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner!"</span> I use a 2" USO ARD to help keep dust, grit and the elements off of the objective lens. It works pretty well for keeping rain out unless the wind is driving it hard.

An added benefit of an efficient ARD is that it actually helps keep the image from washing-out in very bright sunlight. If you happen to be lucky enough to own S & B PMII and/or Premier Heritage scopes I highly recommend the USO-manufactured ARDs' and Sunshades made to fit the 50mm and 56mm PMII - I <span style="font-style: italic">think</span> that USO made a 42mm at some point as well. USO makes Sunshades and ARDs' for the 56mm Premier too. The USO ARD's honeycomb design is very efficient and the housing is quite robust.

I use a Shemaghs to cover me and the some of the scope. The front of my rife has a sunshade and a 3/4" hole cut in the OBJ cover. I only get rain on the front lens if it is a head wind.

Here is a photo of one of my rifles with the cutout.

Boonie.

If the boonie isn't working, then I break out the straw....cuz the only thing left to do is suck it the fuck up.

Guys who have shot with me before know I love it when it rains at a big match. Shit breaks and people get all pissy.

OK, so I guess there is no cure-all. I have, and used my sunshade, which worked well on the front end. I guess I'll just "suck it the fuck up"

Thanks for the picture Mike, I like the idea of the hole in the front cover.
